Chapter 6 - A New Dawn at the Estate
Spring came slowly to Chicago, melting the heavy winter snow and turning the vast lawns of the Russo estate into a vibrant, blooming sea of green.
Inside the East Wing, the heavy iron doors were no longer locked against the world.
On a bright Sunday afternoon, fifteen-year-old Tommy Bennett sat on the stone patio near the fountain, laughing as he played chess with Victor. A glass of fresh lemonade sat on the table beside him, and the dark circles under his eyes had finally been replaced by the healthy glow of a recovering teenager.
A few feet away, Khloe stood by the garden trellis, clipping fresh roses to place on the dining room table.
She wore a light yellow sundress that caught the spring breeze, her hair falling in soft brown waves around her shoulders.
Victor glanced up from the chessboard, his knight hovering over the board as his eyes drifted across the lawn to where Khloe stood laughing at something Tommy said.
For five years, Victor Russo had believed that love was a weakness—a fatal flaw that could only bring ruin.
Now, watching the sunlight wrap around her like a blessing, he knew the truth.
Love wasn't the weakness.
It was the armor that finally made him invincible.
He captured Tommy’s rook with a quiet click of wood against wood.
“Checkmate, kid,” Victor smiled, standing up from the table.
He walked across the lawn toward the garden, stopping directly behind Khloe. Without turning around, she leaned back against his chest, resting her head comfortably against his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close.
“You’re supposed to let him win occasionally,” Khloe teased quietly, pointing toward Tommy, who was already resetting the board for a rematch.

And as the spring wind carried the scent of blooming roses across the estate, the mafia king and the maid who had stolen his heart stood together in the sunlight, knowing that no matter what storms lay ahead, they would face them side by side.
