Chapter 10 - The Dawn at Rose's Diner

Six months later.

The morning sun washed over the streets of Brooklyn, painted in soft shades of gold and pink. The rain was gone, replaced by a cool, crisp spring breeze carrying the faint scent of blooming cherry blossoms from the park nearby.

Rose’s Diner looked completely transformed.

The shattered windows had been replaced with crystal-clear panoramic glass. The cracked vinyl booths were replaced with plush leather seats. A brand-new hand-painted sign hung above the entrance, reading: EMMA’S ROSE DINER.

Inside, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, cinnamon rolls, and warm apple pie filled the air.

Sophia stood behind the counter, wearing a clean white apron over a navy-blue dress. She looked radiant, the dark circles of exhaustion completely gone from beneath her eyes, replaced by a quiet, joyful confidence.

The front door chimed softly.

A tall man in a dark gray suit stepped inside. He no longer wore the heavy, cold overcoat of a mob kingpin. His face was relaxed, the sharp edges of his jaw softened by a peaceful smile.

Adrian walked across the polished wooden floor and took his usual seat in the booth beside the window.

Sophia walked over, carrying a fresh pot of coffee. She filled his cup without saying a word, her eyes warm with a deep, silent affection.

“Morning, Adrian,” she said softly.

“Morning, Sophia,” he replied, taking a sip of the black coffee.

Over the past six months, the Moretti empire had undergone a quiet, radical transformation. With Dominic and the corrupt feds gone, Adrian had systematically dismantled the illegal arms and narcotics divisions, transferring all syndicate capital into legitimate maritime shipping, green logistics, and community trust funds.

He was no longer a mob boss. He was the CEO of Moretti Global Logistics—a clean, legitimate enterprise that employed thousands of working-class families across the city.

Suddenly, a door behind the counter burst open.

Seven-year-old Emma ran into the dining room, wearing a bright yellow dress and brand-new white sneakers. In her hands, she proudly held a wooden tray bearing a fresh, steaming slice of apple pie.

“I saved the first slice for you, Mr. Adrian!” Emma announced happily, placing the plate on his table.

Adrian looked at the pie, then up at Emma’s beaming face, feeling a warmth in his chest that no amount of money or power could ever buy.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a shiny, crisp two-dollar bill, and held it out to her.

Emma looked at the bill, then tucked her hands behind her back, just like she had done in the rain six months ago.

“You don't have to pay me,” Emma said proudly. “We’re family now.”

Adrian smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached his eyes.

He put the bill back into his pocket, took a forkful of the pie, and looked out the window at the bright morning sun shining over the city he had finally learned to love.

“Yes, we are,” Adrian whispered softly. “Yes, we are.”
