Chapter 5 - THE EMBASSY OF JUSTICE

The morning sun broke through the silver clouds over Manhattan, reflecting off the glass towers of the Whitmore Medical Center.

A crowd of over two hundred journalists, news crews, and national television cameras blocked the plaza outside the main entrance. The news had broken at dawn: the heiress of the Whitmore fortune had allegedly embezzled fifty million dollars and fled into the night.

Inside the grand eighth-floor auditorium, the entire board of directors sat behind a long curved oak table.

At the center sat Chester Aldrich, wearing a pristine tuxedo, looking smug and victorious. To his right sat Dr. Victor Sterling—a tall, sleek European billionaire in his fifties with silver hair, wire-rimmed glasses, and an air of absolute, unyielding arrogance.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the press,” Chester spoke into the microphone, his voice echoing through the packed auditorium. “It is with a heavy heart that the board announces the immediate suspension of Vanessa Whitmore from all executive duties. In light of her tragic mental breakdown and financial irregularities, Vanguard Bio-Tech has graciously agreed to buy out the foundation's assets for two billion dollars.”

Dr. Victor Sterling leaned into his microphone, offering a polished, fake smile. “Vanguard’s priority has always been the children. We will continue our noble research under unified leadership—”

BANG!

The heavy mahogany double doors at the back of the auditorium slammed open with explosive force!

The entire room turned instantly. News cameras swung around, their spotlight beams piercing the dim auditorium air.

Walking down the center aisle was Vanessa Whitmore.

She looked ethereal, fierce, and utterly unshakeable. She wore a tailored white silk suit, her hair pulled into a sleek chignon, her chin lifted high with undisputed authority.

Walking beside her was Nikolai Vance. He was clad in a flawless, dark charcoal bespoke suit, looking every bit the high-society titan, though his icy blue eyes promised absolute ruin to anyone who stood in his path.

And holding Nikolai’s hand was eight-year-old Layla, wearing a beautiful light blue dress, her ears uncovered, her dark eyes looking straight at the stage without a single flinch of fear.

The auditorium erupted into chaotic shouting! Camera flashes exploded like lightning!

“Vanessa Whitmore is here!”

“Mrs. Whitmore! Did you steal the fifty million?!”

“Who is the man beside you?!”

Chester Aldrich slammed his gavel down frantically, his face turning bright red. “Security! Security, arrest that woman! She is trespassing on foundation property!”

Six Whitmore security guards stepped forward to block the aisle—

STEP.

From the side doors of the auditorium, twelve men in dark navy suits with silver Obsidian Fleet lapel pins stepped out in synchronized precision. They didn't draw weapons; their sheer size and terrifying tactical aura forced the foundation guards to instantly freeze in their tracks and step back.

Vanessa reached the front of the stage. She didn't use the stairs; she stood at the base, looking up at Chester and Victor Sterling with pure, unadulterated coldness.

“This meeting is out of order, Chester,” Vanessa declared, her voice ringing clearly through every television broadcast in the nation.

Dr. Victor Sterling sneered, leaning over the podium. “Mrs. Whitmore. You are a fugitive facing federal indictment. You have no legal standing in this room.”

Nikolai stepped forward, casually resting one hand in his trouser pocket while pulling a thick leather folder from his coat with the other. He tossed the folder onto the stage directly in front of Sterling.

“She doesn't need legal standing, Sterling,” Nikolai said, his low baritone cutting through the room like a heavy bell. “She owns eighty-two percent of Vanguard Bio-Tech as of twenty minutes ago.”

Sterling froze. A hysterical laugh escaped his lips. “What nonsense is this?! Vanguard is a private Swiss corporation!”

“It was,” Nikolai replied calmly. “Until my fleet executed a short-squeeze acquisition on your shell companies in Zurich, Liechtenstein, and the Cayman Islands at 4:00 AM Eastern time. Your board sold out to avoid bankruptcy when your illegal offshore accounts were frozen by Interpol.”

Sterling’s face turned paper-white. He grabbed the folder, flipping through the official Swiss banking transfers bearing his own secret signatures.

“You... you can’t do this!” Sterling stammered, his polished composure completely shattering. “Who the hell are you?!”

Nikolai looked at the rows of news cameras. He didn't hide his face. He didn't mask his identity.

“My name is Nikolai Vance,” he announced to the world. “And I am the executor of David Whitmore’s true estate.”

Nikolai gestured toward the main stage projector screen.

Elena, sitting in the media booth overhead, pressed a single key.

The massive wall screen behind the board of directors flickered to life.

Instantly, thousands of internal emails, medical voice recordings, bank wire receipts, and video footage of Vanguard’s unauthorized child testing labs appeared in high-definition glory!

Audio echoed through the auditorium speakers—Chester Aldrich’s voice, clear and undeniable:

“...The child must remain silent, Victor. If Layla remembers what she saw on the bridge, the whole foundation collapses. Keep the dampener active at all costs...”

Gasps of horror erupted across the auditorium! Reporters scrambled to go live on air!

Chester collapsed back into his leather chair, clutching his chest, his eyes rolling back in sheer terror as he realized his entire life, his reputation, and his freedom had just been executed on live national television.

Victor Sterling backed away from the podium, looking for a side exit, but two Obsidian Fleet operatives stepped out from the shadows, blocking the doors with arms folded over their heavy chests.

Vanessa walked up the stage stairs, taking her place at the central podium.

She looked down at the cameras, her voice strong, beautiful, and completely filled with the spirit of her late husband.

“The Whitmore Foundation was built to heal children, not to exploit them,” Vanessa spoke into the microphone, tears of victory shining in her eyes. “Today, Vanguard Bio-Tech is dissolved. Its assets are being transferred directly into a global trust for disabled children—named the Layla Whitmore Voice Initiative.”

She looked down at the front row, where Layla stood beside Mia, both girls smiling brightly up at the stage.

Layla raised her small hands, signing clearly toward her mother and the cameras:

My voice is back. And the truth is heard.
