Chapter 6 - The New Order

Six months later.
Spring had arrived on Federal Hill. The cold autumn rains had given way to warm sunlight, blooming cherry blossoms, and the fresh scent of green grass across the estate grounds.
The Romano family was different now. The corrupt old guard had been swept away, replaced by an order built on absolute loyalty and genuine respect.
I stood on the grand stone terrace of the mansion, dressed in a comfortable linen shirt, holding a cup of fresh espresso.
Down on the lawn, Emma was running through the grass, laughing as she flew a bright red kite. Beside her walked her mother, Sophia, dressed in an elegant summer dress, no longer a tired maid carrying the burden of poverty, but the director of the newly established Romano Children’s Foundation.
"Look, Mr. Marco! Look how high it goes!" Emma cheered, waving up at me.
I smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached my eyes.
"It's beautiful, Emma!" I called down.
I walked down the stone steps into the warm sunlight, joining them on the grass. Emma ran over to me, holding out her small hand. Around her neck, hanging from a delicate gold chain, was the Romano signet ring I had given her six months ago.
"You saved this house, little one," I murmured, ruffling her soft hair.
"Rosie and I just told the truth," Emma said simply, holding up her button-eyed doll.
I looked at Sophia, whose eyes were filled with peace and quiet happiness, then down at the little girl who had possessed the courage no grown man in my world had ever shown.

It was a home.
