Chapter 5 - THE SIEGE OF THE VANCE ESTATE

The fall of Marcus Vance sent shockwaves through the criminal underworld of Chicago. Within twenty-four hours, the remnants of his faction surrendered to Dante without a fight. But Sean Doyle, cornered and desperate after losing his inside man, decided to make one final, suicidal play.
It was midnight three days later. The Vance estate was shrouded in heavy fog.
Inside the main drawing-room, a crackling fire provided the only illumination. Elena sat at the mahogany desk, reviewing the financial restructuring plans for the legitimate foundations Dante was launching to transition his empire away from illegal syndicates. She was no longer a frightened refugee; she was Dante’s trusted confidante, wearing a tailored black dress that mirrored the quiet strength she had discovered within herself.
Suddenly, the estate's master alarm blared through the halls—a shrieking, piercing wail that shattered the peace of the night.
BOOM!
A massive explosion rocked the northern perimeter wall, followed by the deafening rattle of automatic gunfire.
"They're breaching the gates!" Sal’s voice echoed over the encrypted intercom in the hallway. "Doyle brought an army! Heavy artillery, armored trucks—they're trying to burn us out!"
Dante stood instantly from the armchair by the fireplace. His face was carved from granite. He pulled a submachine gun from a concealed wall panel, checking the load with efficient precision.
"Elena, get to the underground safe room immediately," Dante ordered, his tone brooking no argument.
"No," Elena stood up, walking over to him, picking up a spare tactical rifle from the rack. "I'm not hiding anymore, Dante. If we fall tonight, we fall together."
Dante looked at her, searching her eyes for a flicker of hesitation. He found none. A fierce, proud smile cut across his rugged face.
"Then stay close to my six," Dante said grimly. "Let's show the Doyles what happens when you wake a sleeping dragon."
For the next hour, the Vance estate turned into a war zone.
Doyle's men swarmed the courtyard, firing relentlessly at the mansion's reinforced windows. But Dante’s elite guard, bolstered by veterans and fortified positions, held the line with devastating efficiency.
Dante and Elena fought side by side in the grand foyer. Dante moved like a whirlwind of calculated violence, picking off targets with ruthless precision, while Elena covered his flanks from behind a marble pillar, her training over the last few days kicking in as she laid down suppressing fire that kept the enemy from advancing up the front steps.
Through the shattered double doors, Sean Doyle himself marched into the foyer, leading a final push with a heavy assault rifle in his hands, his face blackened with smoke and rage.
"DANTE! THIS ENDS TONIGHT!" Sean roared, raising his weapon toward the staircase.
Before Sean could pull the trigger, Dante stepped out from behind a shattered pillar, his submachine gun locked directly onto Sean’s chest.
"It does end tonight, Sean," Dante said coldly. "Just not the way you planned."
Sean froze, realizing he was trapped in the crosshairs. But before Dante could fire, Sean’s eyes darted toward Elena, and with a maniacal grin, he swung his barrel toward her.
Crack!
Elena didn't hesitate. She squeezed the trigger of her rifle. The bullet caught Sean square in the shoulder, spinning him around with a howl of pain. His rifle clattered uselessly to the marble floor.
Before Sean could recover, Dante closed the distance, delivering a devastating roundhouse kick that sent the rival boss crashing through a decorative glass table, knocking him out cold.

Within minutes, the remaining Doyle enforcers, seeing their leader captured and their assault broken, dropped their weapons and raised their hands in surrender.
The battle for Chicago was over.
