Chapter 5 - Tommy Comes Back for Revenge

Dom refused to let Nema accompany them.
For once, she agreed.
She stayed at the estate with Lucia.
An hour passed.
Then two.
Nema paced.
Lucia watched her.
"You care about my son."
Nema stopped.
"I've known him two days."
"That wasn't an answer."
Before Nema could respond, the lights went out.
Both women froze.
Lucia whispered, "That's not normal."
Nema reached for her phone.
No signal.
Then glass broke downstairs.
Nema grabbed Lucia's hand.
"Upstairs."
They moved toward the staircase.
A voice came from the darkness.
"Don't bother."
Tommy stepped into the foyer.
Nema's stomach dropped.
He looked exhausted.
Wild.
A pistol hung at his side.
"Where's Dom?"
Nema moved in front of Lucia.
"You sent him across town."
Tommy smiled.
"Smart waitress."
"Not smart enough. I got into your car."
"That was stupid."
"Probably."
Tommy walked closer.
"You destroyed everything."
Nema stared at him.
"You tried to poison your best friend."
"He stopped being my friend years ago."
"Did he know that?"
Tommy's face twisted.
"Dom got everything."
"What did you want?"
"Respect."
"You mean his position."
"I earned it!"
Lucia spoke from behind Nema.
"No, Thomas."
Tommy looked at her.
"You were always welcomed into this house."
"As his shadow."
"As his brother."
Tommy's expression flickered.
Then hardened again.
"Carlo promised me my own territory."
Nema understood.
"And you believed him?"
Tommy raised the gun.
"Enough."
Nema's heart pounded.
"Carlo used you."
"Shut up."
"He paid you to kill Dom. Then what? You think he'd share power with a man who betrayed his own brother?"
Tommy stepped closer.
"I said shut up."
A voice came from behind him.
"She makes a good point."
Tommy froze.
Dom stood in the doorway.
Vincent beside him.
Tommy spun.
"Dom."
"Put it down."
Tommy grabbed Nema and pulled her against him.
The gun rose.
Dom stopped.
Nema felt the barrel near her shoulder.
Tommy shouted, "Tell them to back off!"
Dom's eyes met Nema's.
Calm.
Controlled.
"Vincent."
Vincent stepped backward.
Tommy dragged Nema toward the side door.
"You always thought you were better than me."
Dom replied, "No."
"Don't lie!"
"I thought you were my brother."
That landed.
Tommy hesitated.
Dom continued.
"You ate at my mother's table."
Lucia's voice trembled.
"You had a room here, Thomas."
"Stop."
"We celebrated your birthdays."
"Stop!"
Nema felt Tommy's grip loosen slightly.
She spoke quietly.
"Twenty-two years."
Tommy looked down at her.
"What?"
"You threw away twenty-two years because Carlo promised you something."
"Shut up."
"And now Carlo's gone."
Tommy's face changed.
Nema knew she'd guessed correctly.
Dom confirmed it.
"Carlo was arrested an hour ago."
Tommy stared at him.
"You're lying."
"His accountant gave us everything."
Tommy's breathing accelerated.
Dom stepped forward.
"It's over."
For several seconds nobody moved.
Then Tommy's gun lowered.
Vincent crossed the distance instantly and took it.
Tommy didn't fight.
He simply stared at Dom.
"I deserved more."
Dom looked at the man who had once been his closest friend.
"You deserved the chance to ask."
Tommy's shoulders dropped.
"And now?"
"Now you answer for what you did."
Police sirens approached in the distance.
Nema looked at Dom.
"You called the police?"
"Some problems are better handled legally."
She raised an eyebrow.
"You're full of surprises."
May you like
Dom looked at her.
"So are you."
