Chapter 6 - The Feast of the Bellandi

Six Months Later
The spring sun shone brightly over Michigan Avenue, washing the grand limestone facade of the Bellandi Flagship Hotel in warm, golden light.
Inside the grand ballroom, two hundred high-profile guests—city officials, international food critics, Michelin inspectors, and hotel staff—were seated at long, candlelit tables decorated with fresh white lilies and crystal glassware.
It was the annual Midwest Culinary Gala, and the atmosphere was electric.
The Castaglione scandal had shattered the Chicago business world three months ago. Harrison Castaglione and Gary Vance were currently serving federal prison sentences for commercial sabotage, extortion, and tax fraud. Jimmy Vance had signed away all parental rights to Leo in exchange for a plea deal on trespass and assault charges, vanishing permanently from their lives.
Standing at the center of the main presentation stage was Marco Bellandi, looking dashing in a tailored black tuxedo.
Beside him, wearing an exquisite midnight-blue silk gown that highlighted her elegance, was Sarah. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, her hazel eyes bright with health, confidence, and joy.
Marco stepped up to the crystal microphone, holding a glass of vintage champagne.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Marco began, his deep voice carrying through the silent ballroom. "Six months ago, the Bellandi Hotel Group faced a quiet crisis. People thought our success was built on marble floors, fine crystal, and expensive investments. But a hotel is not made of stone. It is made of the people who pour their hearts into serving others."
He turned to look at Sarah, his face softening into a look of profound, unconditional love.
"Six months ago, I met a woman who taught me the true meaning of leadership," Marco continued, his voice thick with emotion. "A woman who spent her last fifty-two dollars to give her son a moment of joy, while she sat before an empty plate. She reminded me of where I came from. She reminded me of why we build a table in the first place."
The crowd applauded warmly, many wiping tears from their eyes.
"Tonight," Marco announced proudly, "I am honored to announce two things. First, under Sarah Vance’s leadership as Executive Operations Director, Il Terrazzo has officially been awarded its third Michelin star!"
The ballroom erupted into loud cheers and applause!
"And second," Marco smiled, pulling a small velvet box from his tuxedo pocket and dropping to one knee before Sarah on the grand stage, "I am asking the most courageous, brilliant woman I have ever known to make me the happiest man on earth."
The crowd gasped in delight!
Marco opened the box, revealing a breathtaking pear-cut diamond ring that caught the sparkling light of the chandeliers.
"Sarah," Marco spoke softly, his dark eyes locking onto hers with absolute devotion. "Will you marry me, and let me spend the rest of my life making sure your plate is never empty again?"
Sarah covered her mouth with both hands, tears of pure, unadulterated happiness spilling down her radiant face.
From the front row, nine-year-old Leo—wearing a handsome miniature tuxedo—jumped up from his seat, cheering loudly: "Say yes, Mom! Say yes!"
Sarah laughed through her tears, stepping forward and throwing her arms around Marco’s neck. "Yes! Yes, Marco! A thousand times yes!"
Marco stood up, pulling her into a passionate, loving embrace as the entire ballroom rose to their feet in a deafening standing ovation!
Later that evening, after the guests had departed, the grand ballroom was quiet.
Marco, Sarah, and Leo sat together at a private table near the tall French windows overlooking the glowing Chicago skyline. On the table sat three large plates of fresh pasta, warm garlic bread, and a massive slice of double-chocolate cake.
Leo took a bite of the cake, his face covered in chocolate, grinning brightly. "This is the best night ever, Dad."
Marco smiled softly, his hand wrapping warmly over Sarah’s on the white linen tablecloth.

Sarah looked down at her hands—no longer worn down by cold dishwater or trembling with fear, but held securely within the strong, loving grip of a man who loved her and her son above all else.
She looked out at the glowing city lights, letting out a long, peaceful breath. The long years of hunger, fear, and silent sacrifices were finally over. She was home, surrounded by love, and her heart—like her plate—would be full forever.
