Chapter 6 - A Home Restored

One week later. Christmas Morning.

The great room of the Whitaker estate was bathed in warm, golden sunlight reflecting off the fresh white snow outside. The grand Christmas tree hummed with soft fairy lights, surrounded by dozens of wrapped presents.

Evelyn walked down the grand staircase, wearing a simple, elegant navy blue dress—no uniform, no apron.

In the center of the room, little Lily was sitting on a soft sheepskin rug near the fireplace, wearing brand-new red holiday pajamas, happily tearing the shiny paper off a massive cardboard box containing a giant dollhouse.

Mason stood by the fireplace, wearing a cozy grey cashmere sweater, holding two mugs of hot chocolate. He walked over, handing one mug to Evelyn with a warm, genuine smile.

“Merry Christmas, Evelyn,” Mason said softly.

“Merry Christmas, Mr. Whitaker,” Evelyn replied, sipping the warm chocolate.

“Mason,” he corrected her gently, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a quiet, lingering warmth. “Outside of official staff business, it’s Mason.”

Evelyn smiled, a soft blush rising to her cheeks. “Merry Christmas, Mason.”

Over by the tree, Lily placed a small plastic doll inside the wooden balcony of her new toy house. Then she looked up at the mantle, where the grand porcelain angel stood peacefully in the morning light—no longer hiding stolen secrets, but standing guard over a home that had finally found its truth.

“Look, Mommy!” Lily giggled, pointing up at the mantle. “The angel is smiling today!”

Evelyn walked over, kneeling beside her daughter, pulling her close into a warm, safe embrace.

“She is, baby,” Evelyn whispered, looking up at Mason, who walked over to stand beside them under the warm Christmas light. “She is.”

A house restored, an innocent mother honored, and a future forever built on truth, dignity, and love.
