Chapter 5 - The Trap at the Gala

The Annual Nashville Real Estate Founders Gala was held on Saturday night in the grand ballroom of the Hermitage Hotel. It was the premier event of the season, attended by state senators, major developers, and international investors—including the delegation from the European Investment Group Trevor had been desperately trying to court.

Trevor had spent the entire morning demanding that Savannah attend the gala with him. He needed her there to present a picture of marital unity and corporate strength to the European investors before the formal signing on Monday.

"You will put on a dress, put on a smile, and stand by my side tonight, Savannah," Trevor had commanded her in the foyer before leaving for his morning meetings. "The future of Prescott Holdings depends on this deal."

Savannah had simply nodded, offering no resistance. "I'll be there, Trevor."

At 8:30 PM, the ballroom was packed with three hundred people beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers. Champagne flowed freely, and a string quartet played softly in the background.

Trevor stood near the main stage, wearing a tailored tuxedo, a glass of vintage champagne in hand. Beside him stood Vanessa Hartwell, breathtaking in an emerald green silk gown, smiling charm as she chatted with Herr Klaus Meyer, the head of the European Investment Group.

"Prescott Holdings has always prioritized seamless international integration," Trevor was saying smoothly, placing a confident hand on Herr Meyer’s shoulder. "My team—led by Miss Hartwell—has prepared an immaculate portfolio for your review."

"We are very impressed, Mr. Dalton," Herr Meyer replied in his accented voice. "However, we were hoping to meet Mrs. Prescott-Dalton. As the primary shareholder and daughter of Arthur Prescott, her signature is required on the final governance protocols, yes?"

"Of course," Trevor laughed off the concern smoothly. "Savannah is running a few minutes late, but she fully endorses—"

"I am right here, Herr Meyer."

The ballroom quieted as Savannah stepped into the light.

She was breathtaking. She wore a stunning midnight-blue velvet gown with a sharp, regal silhouette, her dark hair swept back in an elegant updo, revealing her grandmother’s sapphire necklace. She moved with an aura of absolute power and grace that instantly commanded every eye in the room.

Walking two steps behind her was Marcus Vance, impeccably dressed in a dark suit, carrying a sleek leather briefcase, accompanied by two uniformed officers from the Financial Crimes Division of the Tennessee State Bureau of Investigation.

Trevor’s smile froze instantly. Vanessa’s glass of champagne faltered in her hand, her eyes darting nervously toward the officers.

"Savannah..." Trevor stammered, stepping forward with an awkward laugh. "Darling, you made it! But... why are Marcus and the authorities here? Is there some security issue?"

"No security issue, Trevor," Savannah said, her voice carrying effortlessly across the silent ballroom as guests began turning around to watch. "Just an overdue corporate audit."

Herr Meyer blinked in confusion. "Mrs. Prescott? What is the meaning of this?"

"Herr Meyer," Savannah said, turning to the European investor with a gracious, warm smile. "I apologize for the disruption, but as majority shareholder and CEO of Prescott Holdings, I must inform you that any negotiations conducted by Trevor Dalton or Vanessa Hartwell regarding the Cumberland Valley project are null and void."

"What?!" Trevor roared, taking a aggressive step toward her, his face flushing dark red. "Savannah, have you lost your mind?! Security! Get these people out of here!"

"Don't move, Mr. Dalton," Marcus Vance stepped forward, his voice like iron as he opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of court documents. "I am serving you with an emergency injunction issued an hour ago by the Davidson County Chancery Court. All your corporate signing authorities, bank access, and executive privileges at Prescott Holdings have been suspended indefinitely."

A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom. Phones were immediately pulled out as guests began recording the scene.

"This is absurd!" Vanessa snapped, stepping forward, her emerald dress rustling loudly. "On what grounds?! You can't just seize a COO's authority without board approval!"

"On the grounds of systematic corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and grand larceny," Marcus Vance replied coldly, handing a copy of the legal notice to Herr Meyer. "Including the illegal transfer of four point two million dollars into Hartwell & Associates Management in Nevis."

Vanessa turned pale as sheet. "That’s... that’s a lie! You have no proof!"

Savannah took a slow step closer to Vanessa, looking down at her with cold contempt.

"I have three months of digital audio recordings, Vanessa," Savannah said quietly, though her words echoed in the silence. "Recorded from the bug you installed in my father's study. I have your voice detailing how you planned to drain my company, defraud European investors, and steal my six-year-old daughter’s inheritance."

Trevor’s glass slipped from his fingers, crashing onto the marble floor and shattering into a hundred pieces. Champagne splashed across his polished shoes. He looked at Vanessa in horror. "You... you recorded us?!"

"I... I didn't..." Vanessa stammered, backing away toward the edge of the stage, but the two state troopers were already stepping up behind her.

"Vanessa Hartwell, Trevor Dalton," the lead officer declared, stepping forward with handcuffs in hand. "You are under arrest for financial fraud, conspiracy, and illegal corporate espionage. You have the right to remain silent..."

As the handcuffs clicked around Trevor’s wrists in front of three hundred of Nashville’s most powerful figures, he looked at Savannah with wide, desperate eyes, his polished world crumbling in a matter of seconds.

"Savannah! Please!" Trevor begged as he was led away. "Think about Emma! Think about our family!"

Savannah stood tall, her head held high, her sapphire necklace catching the light of the chandeliers.

"I am thinking about Emma, Trevor," Savannah said softly as he was marched past her out of the ballroom. "And for the first time in six months, my daughter is completely safe."
