Chapter 6 - A Legacy Written in Light

Six months later—Late Summer 2026.
The gardens of the Moretti estate were blooming with red roses, green hedges, and bright summer sunlight dancing across the calm waters of Lake Michigan.
The heavy iron gates at the perimeter were still guarded, but inside, the atmosphere had completely changed. The dark, somber fortress had become a home filled with warmth, laughter, and light.
On the grand terrace overlooking the lake, a small gathering of close friends, legal advisors, and loyal family members sat at long tables covered in white linen and fresh flowers.
Fourteen-month-old Leo—now walking on sturdy, chubby legs—was toddling across the manicured grass, wearing a tiny black suit with a red bow tie, chasing a butterfly while Mrs. Vane laughed happily behind him.
Standing near the edge of the stone terrace was Norah.
She looked breathtaking.
She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that hugged her soft curves, her dark hair styled in soft waves over her shoulders. Her face was bright, healthy, and radiant with a peace she had never known in her past life.
A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest.
Gabriel leaned down, resting his chin on her shoulder, kissing the soft skin of her neck. He wore a sharp black tuxedo, looking powerful, handsome, and entirely devoted.
"Mrs. Vane is going to spoil him rotten," Gabriel murmured softly against her ear, watching Leo attempt to catch another butterfly.
Norah turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, smiling up into his dark, handsome face.
"Mrs. Vane isn't the only one spoiling him," Norah teased gently, running her fingers through the silver hair at his temples. "I saw the toy speedboat you bought him for the pool yesterday. Gabriel, he's fourteen months old."
Gabriel let out a low, rich laugh—a sound that was now a daily occurrence in the house. "A Moretti must learn to navigate the waters early, my love."
He looked into her bright hazel eyes, his expression turning serious, filled with an intense, boundless devotion that still took her breath away every single day.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, popping it open.
Inside sat a stunning, flawless emerald ring surrounded by diamonds, glittering under the bright afternoon sun.
"Six months ago, I walked into a broken apartment expecting to collect a debt," Gabriel said, his deep voice thick with genuine emotion. "Instead, I found the only woman who could ever bring light into my dark world."
He took her hand, sliding the ring onto her finger before raising her knuckles to his lips.
"Norah Bennett... will you give me the honor of making you my wife?"
Norah’s eyes filled with happy, glistening tears. She didn't hesitate for a single second. She threw her arms around his neck, pulling him down into a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their promise under the warm summer sky.
"Yes," she whispered against his lips. "Yes, Gabriel. A thousand times yes."
Across the lawn, little Leo came running up toward them, babbling happily, holding out a yellow flower he had plucked from the garden.
Gabriel broke the kiss, leaning down to scoop the toddler up into his left arm while holding Norah tight with his right. Leo laughed, grabbing Gabriel’s silver signet ring with his tiny hand, before leaning his head against Gabriel’s shoulder.
Gabriel looked out across the vast, blue horizon of the lake—no longer a solitary king ruling over shadows, but a man surrounded by the family he had fought to protect.
The rules in Chicago hadn't changed.

Dangerous men still ruled the streets.
But in the Moretti house, love was the only law that mattered.
