Chapter 6 - The Bloom of Hope

Six months later, summer had returned to Lake Michigan. The cold grey estate was completely transformed. The heavy blackout curtains were gone, replaced by open windows that let in the warm breeze and the soothing sound of the lake.
Outside, the once-dead garden was transformed into a massive field of radiant, golden sunflowers stretching as far as the eye could see.
In the center of the garden stood a beautiful marble monument dedicated to Elena, Claire, and Julian Vance. Emma ran through the tall green stalks, giggling as Daisy the doll dangled from her hand.
Stone stood on the terrace, his arm wrapped around Sofia’s waist. Sofia leaned into his chest, her face filled with peace and joy, her cracked, worn hands now soft and adorned with a simple, beautiful diamond ring.
