Chapter 4 - The Uninvited Guests

The crystal chandeliers of the St. Regis ballroom cast a brilliant, dazzling light over three hundred distinguished guests. Soft violin music filled the air as the ceremony concluded and the grand reception began.
Ryan and Vanessa stood on the raised dais, clinking champagne glasses with investors, smiling for the photographer’s flashing cameras. Rebecca moved through the crowd like a queen, boasting about her son's brilliant future.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open.
The violinists stopped playing. The room fell into a stunned, breathless silence.
Walking down the center aisle was a woman who commanded the room without saying a word. She wore an emerald-green silk gown that flowed like water around her, paired with a five-carat diamond necklace that sparkled under the lights. Her dark hair was styled in elegant waves, and her posture was that of royalty.
It was me.
Beside me walked Arthur Sterling, looking formidable in a bespoke black tuxedo.
And holding my hands—dressed in matching mini-tuxedos and a tiny emerald dress—were three beautiful five-year-old children: Alexander, Gabriel, and Grace.
Gasps echoed across the ballroom as guests recognized me.
"Is that... Mariana?" a prominent investor whispered.
"She looks incredible... who is that man beside her?" another muttered.
On the dais, Ryan dropped his glass of champagne. It shattered against the marble floor, sparkling liquid soaking into his trousers. He stared at me as if looking at a ghost, his jaw dropping open.

Beside him, Rebecca’s face turned from triumphant joy to absolute, horrified pale shock. Her eyes drifted from my face down to the three children walking beside me.
The resemblance was undeniable. They shared my eyes, my smile, and the unmistakable, dignified air of the woman Ryan had thrown out onto the street five years ago.
