Chapter 6 - A NEW DAY (EPILOGUE)

Two years later.
The afternoon sun streamed through the French doors of a magnificent villa overlooking the crystal-clear blue waters of Lake Como, Italy. The air was sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine and citrus trees.
Laughter echoed across the lush green lawn.
Two-year-old Lily, dressed in a bright yellow sundress, was toddling enthusiastically across the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy. Her joyful giggles filled the warm summer air.
"Slow down, little princess!" Victor’s laughter boomed across the garden.
The terrifying mob boss of New York was currently down on his hands and knees on the soft grass, wearing an open-collared linen shirt and trousers, chasing after his granddaughter with absolute delight. When he caught her, he scooped her up into his arms, tossing her gently into the air as she squealed with laughter.
I sat under the shade of a wide white umbrella on the stone terrace, sipping a glass of iced lemonade, watching the two people I loved most in the world.
Beside me sat Marco, who had fully recovered from his injuries and now served as the chief of security for our family estate in Italy—a job that mostly involved organizing Lily’s birthday parties and making sure her favorite ice cream was always stocked in the freezer.
"He hasn't touched a single tactical file all week, Miss Hannah," Marco chuckled, shaking his head with a warm smile. "The board of directors in Rotterdam called three times yesterday, and he told them he was too busy attending a tea party with stuffed bears."
I laughed softly. "He deserves this peace. We all do."
Victor walked up the terrace steps, carrying a tired but grinning Lily in his arms. He handed her to me, kissing the top of her head before sitting down in the chair beside mine.
"She ran three laps around the fountain," Victor said, wiping his brow with a playful sigh. "She has more energy than a regiment of soldiers."
"She gets it from her grandfather," I teased, reaching out to hand him a cold glass of lemonade.
Victor took the glass, his eyes softening as he looked at me and Lily. The lines of tension and grief that had carved his face for twenty-five years were gone, replaced by deep lines of contentment and laughter.
The Moretti syndicate in New York had been completely legitimized, converted into a global security and logistics firm. The shadow of violence had been replaced by a legacy of protection and philanthropy.
Every child in the boroughs of New York now had access to free pediatric healthcare through the Elena Rossi Memorial Foundation, ensuring that no mother would ever have to stand in the freezing snow, desperate for medicine for her sick baby.
Lily rested her head against my chest, her tiny fingers playing with the silver locket resting against my dress.
"Dad?" I asked quietly, looking out over the sparkling lake.
"Yes, my dear?"
"Did you ever imagine... that night when I walked into your mansion with a feverish baby... that we would end up here?"
Victor remained silent for a moment. He reached out and wrapped his large, warm hand over mine and Lily’s, his hazel eyes shining with deep, unconditional love.
"That night, I thought I was looking at a tragedy," Victor said softly, his voice full of warmth. "I thought the past had come back to haunt me. But the moment I saw that locket, and the moment I held you both... I realized the truth."
He smiled, looking down at his granddaughter sleeping peacefully in my arms, and then up at me.

"You didn't bring trouble into my mansion that night, Hannah," Victor whispered. "You brought my soul back to life. You brought me my family."
The warm Italian breeze rustled through the olive trees, carrying the soft sound of waves lapping against the shore. The dark winter was gone forever, replaced by the endless light of a family finally reunited, whole, and safe at last.
