Chapter 1: The Descent from Grace

The silence that followed Julian Rivers’ words was heavier than the atmospheric pressure pressing against the hull of the private Gulfstream. Tiffany Blake’s glossy, airbrushed smile froze, fracturing like cheap glass. Her manicured hand, still pointing aggressively at Simone, trembled slightly, though she quickly masked it with a sharp, indignant scoff.

"Julian, darling, you must be joking," Tiffany purred, though her voice lacked its previous velvet texture. She cast a desperate glance toward Derek, expecting her lover to stand up, to wield his status as a Rivers, to defend her honor. "This is absurd. I am your brother’s guest. You can’t just—"
"I am not joking, Tiffany. And this is not Derek’s plane," Julian replied, his voice a low, terrifying rumble of absolute authority. Julian Rivers, the eldest brother and the true architect of the Rivers Global empire, did not raise his voice. He didn't need to. He stood at six-foot-three, his tailored charcoal suit immaculate, his silver-streaked hair catching the cabin's soft LED lighting. His eyes, cold and calculating as a winter sea, drifted down to Simone, who was still kneeling on the cream leather carpet, her hands protectively shielding her protruding seven-month belly.
In two swift, graceful strides, Julian bypassed his frozen brother and knelt before Simone. The sheer contrast was staggering: Derek sat paralyzed by cowardice, while Julian, a man worth eleven billion dollars, unbuttoned his suit jacket and offered his hand to the discarded wife.
"Simone," Julian said softly, his tone shifting entirely into something gentle, almost reverent. "Take my hand. Get up from the floor."
Simone looked up, her eyelashes clumped with unshed tears. The hum of the engines seemed to fade into the background as she placed her small, trembling hand into Julian’s firm, warm grip. With effortless strength, Julian guided her to her feet and immediately escorted her to the largest, most luxurious master suite at the front of the aircraft—the one reserved exclusively for the head of the family.
"Derek! Are you just going to sit there and let him insult me?" Tiffany shrieked, her facade completely crumbling as the hedge fund managers and associates in the cabin studiously avoided eye contact, suddenly fascinated by their pristine leather armrests.
Derek finally stood up, his face flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and rage. He walked toward the front cabin, confrontational but inherently weaker than his older brother. "Julian, wait a minute. You’re overreacting. Tiffany didn't mean anything by it. Simone was just being overly sensitive, and—"
Julian turned around slowly. The look on his face stopped Derek dead in his tracks.
"One more word, Derek, and I will strip your name from every corporate charter before we touch the ground," Julian whispered. He turned to the cabin intercom, pressing the button with a firm thumb. "Captain, this is Julian. Alter our flight path. We are making an unscheduled landing at the nearest municipal airport. Get us on the tarmac in fifteen minutes."
"Julian, no! We have the Dubai merger meeting tomorrow!" Derek panicked.
"You have nothing," Julian corrected coldly.

True to Julian’s word, twenty minutes later, the private jet descended through the thick blanket of clouds and touched down at a desolate airport in Ohio. The rain was pouring, smearing the windows with jagged lines of water. The cabin door lowered, and the cold, damp wind rushed inside.
Two burly security detail officers stepped forward, flanking Tiffany.
