Chapter 10 - The Mastermind Unmasked

Three months later, the trial of Teresa Bradley and her co-conspirators came to a swift and decisive conclusion.
Faced with overwhelming digital, financial, and physical evidence, all four defendants changed their pleas to guilty to avoid facing maximum twenty-year federal prison sentences.
The sentencing hearing was brief.
Judge Harold Vance sat on the bench, reviewing the pre-sentencing reports.
“Teresa Bradley,” Judge Vance pronounced, looking down at my mother with stern, unyielding eyes. “You manipulated your position as a mother to commit systematic financial theft, emotional abuse, and child endangerment against your own family. Your actions demonstrate a total lack of remorse, empathy, or moral character.”
Judge Vance slammed his gavel down.
“You are hereby sentenced to twelve years in the Tennessee State Penitentiary for Women, without the possibility of parole for eight years.”
Teresa let out a strangled gasp, slumping forward onto the defense table as the court bailiffs immediately cuffed her hands behind her back.
Mason Bradley was sentenced to seven years for his role in the deed theft and wire fraud. Aunt Betsy and Uncle Richard received five years each for conspiracy and tax evasion.
The toxic syndicate that had plagued my life for years was officially dismantled. They were going to prison, their stolen assets were recovered, and their reputations were permanently destroyed.
