Chapter 5 - The Climax in the Courtroom
Judge Beatrice re-entered the courtroom forty-five minutes later. Her expression was cold as ice, her eyes fixed directly on Julian Vance.
"Mr. Vance," Judge Beatrice began, her voice dripping with disdain. "I have just spent the last three-quarters of an hour reviewing the contents of the flash drive retrieved from the children's wheelbarrow. I have listened to audio recordings of you explicitly detailing how you planned to declare your wife insane, isolate her without food or medical care, and seize full custody of the infants for public image purposes."
Julian Vance stood up abruptly, his legal team scrambling around him. "Your Honor, those recordings are manipulated! They are a forgery!"
"They are verified by federal digital forensic signatures, Mr. Vance," Judge Beatrice cut him off sharply. "Furthermore, the state prosecutor's office has just issued an emergency federal warrant based on the financial documents provided in that drive."
At that moment, four federal agents from the FBI entered the back of the courtroom, accompanied by armed state troopers.
"Julian Vance," the lead federal agent announced, his voice echoing off the high mahogany walls. "You are under arrest for federal conspiracy, money laundering, witness intimidation, and three counts of felony child endangerment."
The gallery erupted into chaos! News cameras flashed wildly as federal agents marched down the aisle, forced Julian Vance’s arms behind his back, and slapped heavy iron handcuffs onto his wrists.
"You'll pay for this, Elena!" Julian screamed as he was dragged toward the side exit, his polished facade completely shattered. "You won't survive without my money! You're nothing!"
Elena stood tall, holding Lily close to her side, her head held high. "I have everything I need right here."
Judge Beatrice slammed her gavel down one final time.
"Order! Order in the court!" the judge commanded. "As for the matter of custody: this court hereby grants complete, sole, and unassailable legal and physical custody of Lily Vance, Noah Vance, and Hope Vance to their mother, Elena Vance. Furthermore, a permanent protective order is issued against Julian Vance and all associated entities."
The courtroom burst into applause. Nurse Sarah wept openly, hugging Dr. Harrison, while Detective Miller smiled broadly and tipped his hat toward little Lily.

Lily looked up at her mother, her big brown eyes shining with tears of relief. "Mommy? Is the bad man gone forever?"
Elena knelt down, cupping her daughter’s face in her hands and kissing her forehead. "Yes, my brave little hero. He can never hurt us again."
