Chapter 2 - The Family Dinner and the Rehearsed Lie

Back in the Monarch Penthouse, the atmosphere was a stark contrast to the glacial calculations of the executive floor.
Grant Whitmore poured another glass of vintage champagne, handing it to Sienna Blake with a smooth, practiced charm. Sienna lounged against the plush velvet sofa, wearing the pale blue silk dress that had cost nearly a month of a normal family's rent—a dress Grant had charged to his corporate wellness account under the guise of “client acquisition.”
“You look breathtaking tonight, Sienna,” Grant murmured, sitting beside her and resting a hand familiarly on her knee. “Once this partnership with Monarch Cove is officially signed tomorrow morning, Whitmore Renewal’s valuation is going to triple. We’ll be untouchable.”
Sienna smiled, swirling her champagne. “And Evelyn? Are you entirely sure she won't cause a scene? Your mother mentioned she arrived at the resort earlier today.”
Grant dismissed the thought with a careless wave of his hand. “Evelyn? Please. She’s harmless. She’s probably sitting down in some quiet corner of the resort reading a book or waiting in our secondary cottage, missing me as usual. My mother has her completely managed. Besides, Evelyn doesn't even know what a capital asset structure looks like. She thinks ‘resort management’ means picking out cushion colors.”
Just then, Grant’s phone buzzed on the coffee table.
It was a text message from his mother, Patricia Whitmore:
Grant, make sure you are fully prepared for tomorrow’s keynote. Your father and I are flying in early with Mallory. Remember, project complete confidence. Keep Evelyn out of our hair; she has a habit of making things awkward when high finance is discussed.
Grant chuckled, showing the screen to Sienna. “See? Even my mother knows how to keep my domestic life from interfering with my empire.”
“You’re a genius, Grant,” Sienna whispered, leaning in to kiss him.
Neither of them knew that less than three floors below, their every digital footprint—from the unauthorized keycard cloning Sienna had used to enter the suite, to the corporate credit card statements funding her wardrobe—was being compiled into a comprehensive, unassailable dossier by Monarch Cove’s legal team.

Grant raised his glass toward the dark ocean outside the balcony. “To tomorrow. To the new era of Whitmore Wellness.”
He truly believed he was holding all the cards. He had no idea that the deck belonged entirely to the wife he had decided to discard.
