Chapter 2: Truth Has No Mercy

At exactly eight o'clock the next morning, every executive gathered in the company's boardroom.

Ethan entered confidently.

He expected sympathy.

Instead...

Every chair remained occupied except his.

The company's lead attorney stood.

"Mr. Mercer, before today's meeting begins, you should know that your executive authority was suspended twelve minutes ago."

Ethan laughed.

"You can't suspend me. I own this company."

The attorney quietly slid a leather folder across the polished table.

Inside were documents Ethan had never seen.

Trust agreements.

Original investment contracts.

Voting certificates.

Every page carried one signature.

Sophia Carter.

His wife walked into the room moments later wearing the same beige dress from the night before.

The bruises on her face remained visible.

She made no attempt to hide them.

Without saying a word, she sat in the chair at the head of the table.

The attorney cleared his throat.

"Ladies and gentlemen..."

"I'd like to introduce the majority shareholder and acting Chairwoman of Mercer Holdings."

Every executive slowly stood.

Not for Ethan.

For Sophia.

Ethan's face drained of color.

His empire had never belonged to him.
