Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Execution

By 11:00 AM, the news had begun to spread through the financial district like wildfire.

Julian arrived at the glass tower of Blackwood Financial, his clothes disheveled, his eyes bloodshot, his hands trembling as he pushed through the revolving glass doors of the lobby.

The security guards—men who had bowed to him and called him 'Sir' for seven years—stepped directly into his path at the turnstiles.

"Mr. Vance," the head of security said, his voice firm and unyielding. "Your access badge has been revoked."

"Get out of my way, Donald!" Julian growled, trying to push past him. "I built this company! My name is on the wall!"

"Not anymore, sir," Donald replied calmly, pointing to the grand marble wall behind the reception desk.

Julian turned his head.

The brushed-gold lettering that had once read VANCE & BLACKWOOD FINANCIAL had been altered. The name Vance had been completely removed. It now read simply: BLACKWOOD GLOBAL ASSET MANAGEMENT.

"Mrs. Blackwood ordered the signage updated at dawn," Donald added, handing Julian a small cardboard box containing a few personal items from his desk—a silver fountain pen, a framed photo of himself from a golf tournament, and an empty watch box. "You are legally barred from the executive floors."

"Where is she?!" Julian screamed, his voice cracking, drawing the stares of dozens of employees rushing through the lobby. "Where is my wife?!"

"Mrs. Blackwood is currently presiding over the emergency shareholder meeting on the top floor," Donald said smoothly. "And I suggest you leave before we have the police escort you to the curb."

Upstairs in the executive boardroom, thirty floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooked the snowy expanse of the city.

I sat at the head of the long mahogany conference table—the seat Julian had occupied for seven years. I wore a tailored midnight-blue suit, my hair pinned back, my posture straight and regal. Beside me sat Sarah Collins and our senior forensic team.

Seated around the table were the primary institutional investors, board members, and legacy partners who represented billions in capital.

On the digital screen behind me, a master summary of Julian's fraudulent transactions was displayed in clear, undeniable black and white—alongside the complete, flawless restructuring plan I had executed overnight to ensure not a single client lost a single dime.

When I finished my presentation, the room was silent for three full seconds.

Then, Arthur Pendelton—the oldest, most respected member of the board and a close friend of my late father—stood up. He looked at the screen, then looked down the table at me, his eyes filled with profound respect.

"Elena," Arthur said, his deep voice carrying through the room. "Your father would have been immensely proud of you today. You didn't just save this firm from a catastrophic scandal; you demonstrated the exact integrity and brilliant foresight that built it."

Arthur turned to face the rest of the board members.

"I move to permanently terminate Julian Vance for cause, strip him of all executive stock options, and formally appoint Elena Blackwood as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective immediately."

"Seconded," three voices called out in unison.

"All in favor?" Arthur asked.

Every single hand in the boardroom went into the air.

Not one person spoke Julian’s name. Not one person questioned his absence. In less than two hours, the man who believed he was the smartest person in every room had been completely, systematically, and legally erased from the empire he thought he owned.
