Chapter 6 - A True Thanksgiving

A year later, the dining room of Claire’s penthouse was filled with the warm, rich aroma of roasted turkey, fresh-baked rolls, and chocolate pie.
The table was set beautifully, but there was no stiff formality, no fear, and no judgment.
Eleanor sat near the window, laughing as she helped Lily tie a bright yellow ribbon around her stuffed rabbit’s neck. Beside them sat Marcus Vance, Claire’s attorney and now close friend, sharing a glass of wine with Arthur Callahan, who had driven down from Briar County to join the celebration.
Claire stood in the doorway of the kitchen, watching the scene.
She wore a simple, elegant dark green dress, her hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders. She looked at her daughter, who was giggling as she reached for a warm roll from the basket on the table.
No one scolded her. No one called her a dummy.
Instead, Eleanor smiled and handed her a small plate. "Here you go, my sweet girl. Eat up."
Claire felt a deep, boundless warmth fill her chest. She had survived the storm, fought the monsters of her past, and built a sanctuary of love, trust, and absolute peace for her family.
She walked into the dining room, taking her seat at the head of the table.
"Before we eat," Claire said, looking around at the beautiful faces of the people who truly loved and supported her. "I just want to say how grateful I am. For this home. For this peace. And for the family we chose to build."
Lily looked up, her dark eyes shining with happiness. "And for the chocolate pie, Mommy!"

"And definitely for the chocolate pie," Claire laughed, raising her glass.
As the laughter echoed through the warm room, the cold memory of that walkway was finally gone, replaced by the sweet, unbreakable promise of a beautiful future.
