Chapter 5 - The Dissolution of a Dynasty

“Don't you dare touch them!” Clara’s voice didn't rise to a scream, but it carried a sub-zero, lethal intensity that caused Julian’s hands to freeze mid-air. She stepped forward, placing her body directly between him and the triplets, her shadow falling over his kneeling form. “You lost the right to touch them the night you sat in silence and let your mother brand me a broken woman to protect your corporate inheritance, Julian.”

“Clara, please,” Julian begged, the tears flowing freely down his face now, entirely unconcerned with the three hundred members of his social class watching his complete, public humiliation. “I didn't know. I swear to you, she told me the medical logs were verified. She told me you had moved to Europe with someone else. I was told—”

“You were told exactly what you wanted to hear because it was easier than fighting for the woman you promised a home to,” Clara replied, her words cutting through his defense with surgical precision.

Brooke Hensley walked the remaining steps down the aisle, her face a mask of cold, aristocratic fury. She didn't look at Clara with hatred; she looked at Julian with an absolute, unadulterated disgust. She reached up to her hair, violently ripping the diamond-encrusted veil from her head and tossing it onto the altar steps where it gathered in a useless, white heap.

“Father,” Brooke said, her voice freezing the air around her as she turned back to Arthur Hensley. “Call the drivers. The wedding is over. And instruct our legal team to withdraw every single dollar from the Prescott harbor development project before the banks close tonight.”

“Brooke, no! Wait!” Vivian screamed, rushing down the aisle, her manicured hands reaching out toward the heiress in a frantic, undignified crawl. “This is a misunderstanding! We can handle this privately! The contracts are already signed!”

“The contracts were based on a legacy, Vivian,” Arthur Hensley sneered, looking down his nose at the desperate matriarch with the cold calculation of a predator. “Your son is a coward, your family line is a public circus, and my daughter is not going to spend her life financing your fraudulent vanity. We are done here.”

Within five minutes, the grand chapel became the staging ground for a mass corporate evacuation. The Hensley family marched out through the oak doors, followed immediately by two-thirds of the congregation, who recognized that the Prescott name had just become financial and social radiation within the state of South Carolina.

Vivian Prescott collapsed into the front pew, her pearls clutching her throat, her eyes blank and hollow as she watched her billion-dollar empire disintegrate into absolute nothingness right before her eyes. Her son was on his knees, her investors were gone, and the girl from Columbia she had tried to destroy stood in the center of the room, taller, stronger, and more powerful than the Prescott name could ever hope to be.
