Chapter 1: The Delivery Room Revelation

The room exploded into motion.

One second Ethan Chen was studying the fetal monitor.

The next, alarms were screaming through the delivery room.

Nurses rushed toward Chloe's bed.

Machines flashed warnings.

Someone shouted for additional equipment.

"The baby's heart rate is dropping," Linda said.

Fear crashed into Chloe like a wave.

"What does that mean?"

No one answered immediately.

That silence told her everything.

Ethan's face changed instantly.

The shock of discovering that Chloe's baby was his vanished beneath years of medical training.

Now he was simply a doctor trying to save a life.

"The cord may be compressed," he said.

Chloe's heart nearly stopped.

"Is my baby okay?"

Ethan looked directly into her eyes.

"I'm going to make sure your baby is okay."

The words sounded reassuring.

The look on his face did not.

Another contraction tore through her body.

Pain swallowed everything.

The room became a blur of voices and flashing monitors.

Yet through the chaos, Ethan never stopped watching the screen.

"Come on," he whispered.

At first Chloe thought he was talking to her.

Then she realized he was speaking to the baby.

To his baby.

Their baby.

For months she had carried this child alone.

For months Ethan had never known.

Yet somehow, he already sounded like a father.

The realization hit harder than any contraction.

Then the monitor dipped again.

The baby's heartbeat dropped lower.

A nurse cursed softly.

Panic exploded inside Chloe.

"No."

Ethan grabbed her hand.

The contact startled both of them.

Years ago, that hand had been home.

Then it became a stranger.

Now it was something else entirely.

"Listen to me," Ethan said firmly.

"Your baby is fighting."

Tears streamed down Chloe's face.

"So are you."

Then came the final push.

And suddenly—

A cry echoed through the room.

Small.

Fragile.

Perfect.

The baby was alive.

And neither of them realized that the real storm was only seconds away from entering the room.
