Chapter 5 - The War for Hollowell

At 8:00 AM on Saturday morning, the high-rise glass boardroom of Hollowell Global Logistics on Wacker Drive was filled with tension sharp enough to cut glass.

Victoria Hollowell sat at the head of the long conference table, clad in a razor-sharp charcoal suit, her silver hair pulled back into a flawless bun. Surrounding her were six senior board members, two corporate attorneys, and Arthur Redford, who looked thoroughly pleased with himself.

"As you all know," Victoria announced smoothly, setting her gold fountain pen on the legal pad before her, "my son, Grant, suffered a severe personal breakdown last evening. His behavior was unbefitting of an executive of this firm. He has abandoned his duties, canceled a crucial merger with Redford Capital, and compromised our brand integrity. I am calling for an immediate vote to strip him of his CEO title and reassign his voting shares to the board trustees."

"I wouldn't call the vote just yet, Mother," a voice rang out from the doorway.

The boardroom doors swung open.

Grant stepped into the room. He wasn't wearing his eight-thousand-dollar tailored suit. He wore a simple dark sweater, dark jeans, and a leather jacket. Behind him walked three men in sharp navy suits carrying heavy leather briefcases.

Victoria’s eyes narrowed into slits. "Grant. You have no standing in this room. Security has already been notified to revoke your keycard."

"Security works for the Chief Executive Officer," Grant said, walking to the foot of the table. "And as of seven o'clock this morning, I remain the majority controlling shareholder of Hollowell Global."

Victoria let out a cold, mocking laugh. "Don't be absurd! I hold thirty-four percent of the voting stock, and the trustees hold forty! You only hold twenty-six!"

Grant signaled to the head attorney standing behind him—David Vance, the most formidable forensic corporate lawyer in the Midwest, whom Grant had hired at midnight using his personal, unencumbered liquid assets.

Vance stepped forward, opening his briefcase and sliding thick, bound sets of legal documents across the mahogany table to every board member.

"Mrs. Hollowell," Vance announced in a booming, authoritative tone, "seven years ago, you executed an unauthorized offshore wire transfer of two hundred thousand dollars from the Hollowell Family Foundation accounts to create a fraudulent paper trail against Miss Tessa Marlowe."

Victoria’s face turned instantly ash-white. "That is a lie! That is confidential family business!"

"It is corporate embezzlement," Vance corrected smoothly. "You used foundation funds—funds subject to federal tax-exempt regulations—to commit civil fraud and extortion. Furthermore, my team spent the last ten hours reviewing the trust structure established by Grant’s late father, Richard Hollowell."

Grant leaned his hands on the table, looking his mother dead in the eye.

"My father knew what you were, Victoria," Grant said softly. "That’s why he built a hidden clause into the primary trust charter. A clause stating that if any trustee engages in criminal fraud or acts against the direct lineage of the Hollowell heir, their voting rights are automatically forfeited and transferred to the primary heir."

"No..." Victoria whispered, her hands beginning to shake violently. "No! Richard would never—"

"Richard did," Vance interrupted, sliding a certified copy of the original 2012 trust charter across the table. "The forensic audit completed three hours ago by the IRS special investigation unit confirms the wire transfer came directly from your personal foundation account. As of 7:30 AM today, your thirty-four percent voting share has been legally revoked and assigned to Grant Hollowell."

The board members gasped, whispering frantically among themselves. Arthur Redford slowly stood up, pushing his chair back, looking at Victoria as if she were radioactive.

"You... you leveraged the foundation?" Arthur stammered, horrified. "Victoria, if the federal authorities look into those accounts, Redford Capital’s co-investments could be frozen!"

"Get out, Arthur," Grant commanded, pointing to the door. "Your firm's contract with Hollowell Global is terminated effective immediately."

Arthur didn't argue. He grabbed his briefcase and hurried out of the boardroom without looking back.

Victoria sat alone at the head of the table, her empire crumbling around her in real time. She looked at the board members—men who had bowed to her for decades—and saw only cold, calculating distance.

"Grant..." Victoria’s voice cracked, a desperate, frantic edge breaking through her regal facade. "Grant, please... I am your mother. Everything I did, I did for the family! For your future!"

"You didn't do it for the family, Mother," Grant said, his voice dripping with absolute, unyielding finality. "You did it for your vanity. You traded four of your own grandsons for social status."

He tapped the table twice.

"You have two hours to clear your office," Grant ordered. "If you ever step foot on Hollowell property again, or if you ever approach Tessa or my sons, I will personally hand the forensic audit files to the State Attorney's office and ensure you spend your remaining years in a federal prison."

May you like

Victoria stared at him, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water, completely destroyed.

Grant turned his back on her, walking out of the glass boardroom and stepping out into the morning sunshine.
