Chapter 5 - The Confrontation at Wall Street

At 8:45 AM, the storm had cleared, leaving New York City glistening under a brilliant, cold morning sun.
The grand trading floor of Hail Group's headquarters on Wall Street was buzzing with activity. Hundreds of stockbrokers, executives, and analysts were moving frantically, preparing for the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange.
Inside the sixty-first-floor executive boardroom, Arthur Hail sat at the head of a long glass conference table, pouring himself a cup of black coffee.
Arthur was a silver-haired man in his late fifties, dressed in a bespoke pinstripe suit, his face wearing the smug, victorious smile of a man who believed he had just pulled off the perfect crime. Standing beside him was Vance, the senior partner from Vane & Sterling, holding a leather folder.
"The transport bus left Saint Anne's at six AM, Arthur," Vance said quietly, taking a sip of espresso. "The child is currently en route to The Pines. By noon, the probate court will declare Victoria's trust completely dissolved due to lack of an heir. Her twenty percent voting shares will be permanently transferred to your personal account."
Arthur chuckled softly, leaning back in his leather chair. "Excellent. Julian won't even know what hit him. When the board meets at ten o'clock, I will have fifty-one percent control of Hail Group. My nephew can keep his shiny penthouse, but I will own this entire city."
Suddenly, the heavy double mahogany doors of the boardroom were blown open with a violent, thunderous crash.
Arthur jumped out of his chair, spilling his coffee across the glass table. "What the hell?!"
Julian Hail stepped into the room.
He looked majestic, dangerous, and completely terrifying. Behind him walked six senior federal prosecutors from the United States Attorney's Office, four NYPD detectives, and Marcus, who was carrying a heavy metal lockbox.
And walking right beside Julian, holding his hand tightly while clutching a brown stuffed dog under his arm, was six-year-old Toby.
Arthur’s face instantly drained of every drop of blood. His coffee cup fell from his trembling fingers, shattering against the marble floor.
"J-Julian..." Arthur stammered, his eyes bulging as he stared at the little boy. "What... what is this?!"
"This is the end of your company, Arthur," Julian said, his voice ringing out through the boardroom like a bronze bell.
Vance, the attorney, tried to back away toward the side door, but two NYPD detectives instantly blocked his exit, slapping steel handcuffs around his wrists.
"Arthur Hail," the lead federal prosecutor announced, stepping forward with a stack of signed arrest warrants. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, kidnapping, and the attempted murder of a minor child."
"THIS IS A LIE!" Arthur shrieked, his voice rising in hysterical panic as he backed up against the floor-to-ceiling windows. "THAT CHILD IS AN ILLEGITIMATE ORPHAN! HE HAS NO LEGAL CLAIM TO THIS COMPANY!"
Julian stepped forward, leaning his hands on the glass table, looking down at his uncle with pure, unadulterated contempt.
"Two hours ago, we opened Victoria's private safety deposit box at Manhattan Central Bank," Julian stated smoothly. "Inside was her original, unedited birth certificate for Toby, a recorded video confession detailing how you poisoned her after she discovered your embezzlement, and a certified DNA profile linking Toby directly to my father."
Arthur collapsed back into his chair, groaning like a wounded animal.
"Furthermore," Julian continued, reaching down to gently pick up Toby and hold him comfortably in his arms, "Toby's twenty percent voting shares are now officially managed by his court-appointed legal guardian."
Arthur looked up, sweating profusely. "Who... who is his guardian?"
Julian smiled—a cold, beautiful, victorious smile. "Me. Which means I now hold sixty-eight percent of Hail Group. You're fired, Arthur. And you're going to spend the rest of your life in a federal penitentiary."
As the NYPD detectives dragged the screaming, weeping old man out of the boardroom in handcuffs, the entire executive floor went dead silent.
Julian stood at the head of the long table, holding his little brother tightly against his side. Toby looked around the grand room, then looked up at Julian, smiling happily as he squeezed his brown stuffed dog.
"Julian?" Toby asked softly.
"Yes, Toby?"
May you like
"Is this your office?"
"It's our office, buddy," Julian smiled warmly, kissing the boy's forehead. "It's our office now."
