Chapter 4 - The Titan's Testimony

"Order! Order in the courtroom!" Judge Vance banged her gavel twice, her eyes wide with shock as she stared down at the billionaire tech mogul walking fearlessly toward the well of the court. "Sir, identify yourself and state your business in this proceeding."

Luke stopped three feet from the defense table, nodding respectfully in my direction before turning his gaze upward to the judge.

"My name is Luke Vance, Your Honor," he said, his voice echoing cleanly through the vaulted ceilings of the courtroom. "And I am here because an innocent woman and her child are being victimized by a malicious, fabricated smear campaign orchestrated by the petitioner sitting at that table."

Arthur Sterling, Eric’s lawyer, scrambled to his feet, his professional composure completely shattered. "Objection! Your Honor, Mr. Vance is not a party to this lawsuit! He has no standing in a domestic custody hearing, and this is a blatant, unverified disruption of court proceedings!"

"Mr. Sterling, sit down," Judge Vance snapped, her curiosity clearly overriding procedural protocol. She leaned forward, resting her elbows on the bench. "Mr. Vance, you claim this proceeding involves fabrication. Explain yourself. How do you know Mrs. Collins?"

Luke didn't hesitate. He stepped up beside me, resting his hand lightly on the back of the empty chair next to mine, a silent pillar of support that made my chest ache with sudden emotion.

"I met Clara and her daughter Poppy on a commercial flight from Denver to Baltimore last Thursday," Luke stated clearly. "At the time, I was trying to escape a mob of aggressive paparazzi and tabloid bloggers who had tracked me to the airport. Passengers around us were aggressively filming me without my consent."

Luke turned, pointing a finger directly at the large projector screen still displaying the viral photo.

"I asked Mrs. Collins if she would mind pretending to fall asleep on my shoulder so the cameras would stop recording my personal space," Luke continued, his voice hardening. "She agreed out of simple human kindness, to help a stranger who was clearly overwhelmed. She did not know who I am. She had no financial motive, no prior contact with me, and no romantic involvement whatsoever. The internet sensationalized a moment of mutual respect, and Mr. Collins's legal team has weaponized it in a disgusting attempt to destroy a mother."

The gallery erupted into a flurry of whispering. Judge Vance raised a hand, silencing the room instantly.

"That is a very touching narrative, Mr. Vance," Arthur Sterling interjected, regaining a shred of his oily confidence as he stepped forward. "However, it is entirely uncorroborated testimony from an interested party. Furthermore, it does not change the fact that Mrs. Collins willingly engaged in intimate physical contact with a stranger on an airplane days after her divorce—behavior that demonstrates poor judgment and moral instability unsuitable for primary childcare."

Sterling turned to the judge, spreading his hands wide. "We maintain our motion for emergency custody modification."

For a second, my heart stopped. Sterling was right—without concrete proof of the harassment on the plane, it was just our word against their curated narrative.

A grim, humorless smile touched the corners of Luke’s mouth.

"Mr. Sterling is very fond of exhibits," Luke said smoothly, reaching into the inside pocket of his tailored jacket. He pulled out a sleek, encrypted flash drive and placed it gently on Mr. Harrison’s defense table. "Which is why my security team spent the last forty-eight hours subpoenaing flight manifests, cabin CCTV footage, and private archival data from Flight 404."

Eric Collins turned around in his seat, his face turning the color of wet chalk. He began whispering frantically to Sterling, his fingers clawing at his lawyer's sleeve.

"Mr. Harrison," Judge Vance instructed, her eyes sharp. "Plug that drive into the courtroom display system. Let's see what else Flight 404 recorded."

Mr. Harrison’s hands shook as he took the flash drive, walking over to the clerk’s station and inserting it into the media port.

The projector screen flickered. The viral photograph vanished, replaced by a crystal-clear, high-definition video file timestamped during the boarding process of Flight 404.

The video showed Row 14 from an angle further up the aisle. It showed me struggling with my diaper bag and holding a sleepy Poppy. It showed Luke stepping up to help.

Then, the camera angle shifted, zooming in sharply on a passenger seated four rows ahead, watching the interaction with intense, calculating eyes.

The passenger in the foreground of the video—clearly visible, caught in 4K resolution without a shadow of a doubt—was Eric Collins.

The entire courtroom sucked in a collective breath.

I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth. Eric? Eric was on that flight?!

On the screen, the video played forward. It showed Eric watching Luke help me with our luggage. It showed Eric’s face shifting from mild surprise to sudden, venomous realization as he recognized the billionaire tech mogul sitting just rows away from his ex-wife.

Then, the video showed Eric pulling out his own smartphone, snapping a series of rapid-fire candid photographs of me leaning on Luke’s shoulder, before hastily pulling his baseball cap low over his face and ducking into the jet bridge before I could ever see him.

"My security team recovered those images from a digital cloud account registered under a dummy corporation linked directly to Mr. Collins’s personal laptop," Luke stated, his voice ringing with cold fury. "Mr. Collins didn't stumble across a viral tweet last week. He was on that exact same flight. He watched the interaction happen in real time. He took the initial photographs himself, leaked them to online gossip syndicates under a burner profile, and then manufactured this entire emergency custody motion to frame his ex-wife."

Judge Vance looked down from the bench. Her expression had hardened into something resembling pure, unadulterated ice.

She turned her gaze slowly toward the petitioner’s table.

"Mr. Collins," Judge Vance said, her voice dropping an octave into a terrifying, glacial register. "Is there anything you would like to say before I hold you in direct contempt of court, revoke your bail privileges, and refer this entire matter to the state prosecutor's office for perjury, fraud, and malicious harassment?"

Eric sat frozen in his chair, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water, utterly destroyed by his own hubris.
