Chapter 5 - The Financial GuillotineBy 5:00 PM, I had set up an emergency command station in my main study.

On the center monitor, Antonio Morales had established a secure video conference with the managing directors of Banco Santander, the Financial Crimes Unit of the Bank of Spain, and the head of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.

"We have tracked the initial transfers, Mateo," Antonio reported, sharing a multi-tiered transaction diagram across the screen. "Over the past forty-five days, Alejandro Ramos utilized your secondary corporate credentials to authorize six separate wire transfers totaling 4.2 million euros from your Marbella development liquidity pool."

"Where did the money land?" I asked.

"An entity named Aura Horizon Ltd., registered in the British Virgin Islands with banking facilities at a private institution in Gibraltar," Antonio said. "The beneficial owners are registered under a blind trust, but the authorized signatories on the bank accounts are Beatriz Vance and Alejandro Ramos."

"What was the next step in their timeline?"

Antonio brought up a secondary PDF document bearing a fraudulent notary stamp from Madrid.

"They filed an emergency petition with the probate registry in Málaga yesterday morning. They claimed you were incapacitated by a severe respiratory infection in a private clinic in Abu Dhabi, presenting a forged medical certificate. Under the terms of your standard corporate power of attorney, this would have triggered the immediate transfer of your remaining 18 million euros in liquid domestic assets directly to Beatriz as your sole legal conservator."

I stared at the forged medical document. It bore the letterhead of a fictitious clinic in the UAE, signed by a doctor who didn't exist, stamped with a stolen consular seal.

"How long would that transfer have taken to finalize?"

"Ramos had scheduled the final bank clearance for tomorrow morning at 09:00 AM," Antonio said. "He was going to bring the signed physical confirmation sheets to your villa tonight for Beatriz to countersign."

"Then let's cut the cables," I said.

I opened my primary commercial banking portal, authenticated using my biometric security fob, and activated the emergency corporate kill-switch.

Within six minutes, the following actions were executed simultaneously:

Complete Asset Freeze: All personal and joint accounts bearing Beatriz’s name across Spain, Switzerland, and the UK were frozen under an emergency civil injunction issued by the High Court of Andalusia.

Credit Line Revocation: The black American Express cards, the luxury vehicle leases for her Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes convertible, and her unlimited merchant accounts in Puerto Banús were terminated immediately.

Insolvency Flagging on Shell Entities: The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission placed an international fraud freeze on Aura Horizon Ltd., locking the stolen 4.2 million euros in place before a single cent could be moved offshore.

Termination of Fiduciary License: An emergency notice of professional misconduct and criminal embezzlement was filed directly with the National Securities Market Commission against Alejandro Ramos, stripping his authority to manage financial instruments.

"The accounts are locked down tight, Mateo," Antonio confirmed. "As of right now, Beatriz and Ramos have zero liquidity. If she tries to buy a cup of coffee with her cards, the terminal will decline with a fraud warning code."

"Good," I said, closing the laptop with a quiet snap. "Now have Carlos set the dining table on the terrace for four."

May you like

"Four?" Antonio asked.

"Yes," I replied, standing up and buttoning my charcoal suit jacket. "Beatriz, Ramos, myself... and the National Police."
