Chapter 6 - A New Beginning

Three months later.
The sweltering heat of the outdoor service kitchen was a distant memory. I had ordered the entire industrial setup torn down, replacing it with a beautiful, lush greenhouse filled with Emily's favorite white roses and orchids.
The Beverly Hills mansion was no longer a party house for high-society grifters. It was a home. The laughter echoing through the halls now wasn't fueled by stolen champagne, but by genuine peace.
I sat at the outdoor patio table, the morning sun warming my face as I reviewed the latest international revenue reports. Carter Global was thriving, but I had officially stepped down as active CEO, promoting my top executive to handle the overseas travel. I was now the Chairman of the Board—a position that required me to do nothing more than work from my home office three days a week.
The glass doors slid open, and Emily walked out, holding two cups of coffee.
She looked radiant. Her hair was down, blowing softly in the California breeze, and she wore a simple, elegant sun dress. Around her neck, catching the morning light in a brilliant display of fire and color, was the diamond necklace.
But the most beautiful thing about her wasn't the jewelry. It was her hands. Her fingers were completely healed, her skin soft and smooth as she handed me my cup and sat down on the lounger beside me.
"Arthur called," she said, a soft, victorious smile playing on her lips. "The forensic audit is complete. Your mother and Michael have officially filed for bankruptcy. They had to sell the luxury cars and move into a small two-bedroom apartment in the valley."
"Are they working?" I asked, taking a sip of my coffee.
"Michael is managing a car wash," Emily said, looking out over the pool. "And Ashley is working retail. Arthur says they're learning the value of a dollar the hard way."
I reached across the table, wrapping my hand around hers, my thumb tracing the smooth skin of her wrist. There was no anger left in me. Only a profound sense of gratitude. My family had tried to destroy the best thing that had ever happened to me, but in doing so, they had only proven how unbreakable our bond truly was.
"Are you happy, Em?" I asked softly.
Emily turned her head, her green eyes shining with a deep, peaceful warmth. She leaned over, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to my lips.

"I have my husband back," she whispered against my skin. "I have a home where I am loved. I have everything I ever dreamed of when we were sharing that cheap takeout on the floor of our tiny apartment."
I pulled her into my lap, holding her close as the California sun bathed our sanctuary in gold. The empire I built was worth billions, but holding the woman who had loved me before I had a single dollar, I knew I was truly the richest man in the world.
