Chapter 5 - The War for Prescott Tech

At 2:55 PM, a convoy of black SUVs pulled up to the glass-and-steel skyscraper of Prescott Technologies headquarters in downtown Denver.
Outside, a wall of hundreds of reporters, news anchors, and camera crews pushed against the security barricades, flashbulbs exploding like a thousand lightning strikes against the snowy sky.
The media was expecting a scandalized billionaire slinking in through the back entrance to resign.
Instead, the front door of the lead SUV opened, and I stepped out onto the marble pavement, wearing a sharp, custom three-piece navy suit. I turned back, extending my hand, and helped Cassandra out of the vehicle. She looked stunning—poised, elegant, wearing a classy emerald-green dress with her dark hair swept back.
And beside us, dressed in matching little pea coats, were Luke and Violet, each holding one of my hands.
The crowd of journalists gasped. Camera shutters clicked at a frantic, deafening pace.
"Mr. Prescott! Are those your secret children?!" "Is it true you hid them to protect the stock price?!" "Mrs. Hayes, are you suing for child support?!"
I ignored the sea of screaming voices, walking with absolute confidence through the main lobby, holding my children's hands tightly, flanked by a dozen security guards. We took the executive elevator directly to the top-floor boardroom.
When the heavy doors swung open, the twelve members of the Prescott Tech board of directors were seated around the long glass table. At the end of the table sat Julian Calder—who had somehow secured a guest seat through a minority board ally—wearing a triumphant grin.
"Damon," the board chairman, an elderly billionaire named Harold Vance, spoke sternly. "You bring children to a fiduciary emergency meeting?"
"These aren't just children, Harold," I said, my voice echoing powerfully through the high-ceilinged room. "These are my twins, Luke and Violet. And this is my partner, Cassandra Hayes."
Julian Calder chuckled arrogantly, leaning back in his chair. "A heartwarming family portrait, Damon. But the market doesn't care about your late-blooming paternal instincts. You concealed personal liabilities that pose a reputational risk to this company. The board is ready to vote on your removal."
I walked to the head of the table, placing both hands flat on the glass surface, leaning over Calder with an aura of immense, suffocating dominance.
"You leak stories to the press, Julian, because you fight like a coward," I said softly, every word laced with venom. "You thought exposing my family would make me panic. You thought it would make my board abandon me. But you forgot one tiny detail."
I pulled a thick leather folder from my suit jacket and tossed it in front of Harold Vance.
"What is this?" Harold asked, opening the file.
"That," I announced, "is a legal audit of Calder Capital's offshore trading accounts. While Julian was busy tracking my flight records and harassing my family in Portland, my security team spent forty-eight hours digging into his acquisition funding for Merritt Systems. Julian Calder committed securities fraud by shorting Prescott Tech stock right before leaking that story to the Wall Street Journal this morning."
The entire boardroom went dead silent.
Julian Calder’s triumphant smile instantly shattered. His face drained of every drop of color as he stared at the audit documents. "This... this is a lie! It's forged!"
"The SEC already has a copy," I replied coldly. "Their federal agents are currently waiting in the lobby downstairs to arrest you for market manipulation and corporate espionage."
Right on cue, the boardroom doors opened, and four federal agents stepped into the room, moving directly toward Calder.
"Julian Calder, you are under arrest," the lead agent declared, snapping handcuffs around Calder's wrists before he could even attempt to stand.
As Calder was dragged out of the room, shouting obscenities and threats, the remaining board members sat in stunned, absolute silence.
Harold Vance closed the file, looking up at me with profound respect. "Damon... you set a trap for him."
"He came after my children, Harold," I said, my voice shaking with an unbreakable conviction. "There is no force on this earth that can threaten my family and survive it. Now, as for the board vote... is there anyone here who still thinks I am unfit to lead this company?"
Not a single hand was raised.
Harold Vance stood up, extending his hand across the table. "Meeting adjourned. Go give your press conference, Mr. Prescott."
At 3:30 PM, I stood behind the podium in the main press hall, illuminated by the bright lights of national television cameras. Cassandra stood beside me, holding Violet, while Luke sat proudly on my hip, clutching his favorite red crayon.
I looked directly into the camera lenses.
"For the past three years," I spoke clearly to the millions of viewers watching across the world, "the media called me a corporate visionary. They called me an ambitious titan who sacrificed everything for success. But they were wrong."
I turned, looking at Cassandra, then at my children.

"I didn't understand the true cost of ambition until I boarded a flight on Christmas Eve," I continued, my voice thick with emotion. "I thought success was measured in dollars, acquisitions, and market caps. But real success... real strength... is sitting right here beside me. I am proud to introduce the world to my children, Luke and Violet, and the woman who saved my soul, Cassandra Hayes. Prescott Technologies will continue to grow, but from this day forward, my family comes first. Always."
The press room erupted not into hostile questions, but into a thunderous, standing ovation.
