Chapter 4 - The Truth Unveiled

As the relatives began to whisper furiously among themselves, a sudden voice broke through the crowd from near the entrance of the garden.
"He's not just throwing you out because of today, Uncle Robert," a voice said.
Everyone turned. Standing at the gate was Sarah, Thomas’s younger sister, who had been estranged from the family for two years. She was holding a thick manila envelope.
"Sarah?" Helen whispered, her face turning from pale to completely white. "What are you doing here? You weren't invited."
"I invited myself," Sarah said, walking straight toward Thomas. She looked at Rebecca, Samuel, and Jacob, giving them a gentle, reassuring smile before turning to her parents. "I couldn't watch Thomas carry this family's lies for another second."
"Sarah, go home," Robert warned, his voice cracking with a sudden panic. "This is a private family matter."
"No, it's a public reckoning," Sarah said. She handed the envelope to Thomas. "Open it, Tommy."
Thomas frowned, tearing open the seal. Inside were copies of bank statements, medical bills, and tax returns dating back five years.
"What is this?" Thomas asked, scanning the numbers.
"While you were busy working eighty hours a week at your diners, paying for Robert's 'medication' and Helen's 'heart specialist' bills, they weren't going to the doctor at all," Sarah explained, her voice ringing clear across the garden. "They’ve been funneling the money you sent them directly into a secret trust fund for Uncle Robert’s golden boy—our cousin Julian. The one who dropped out of business school and has been living in a luxury condo in downtown Denver."
Thomas felt a cold numbness wash over him. "The medication... I paid three thousand dollars last month alone."
"It went straight to Julian’s car payment," Sarah said, pointing a finger at Helen. "They’ve been using you as a ATM while treating your children like trash because they didn't want you to think you were better than them. They hated that the 'broken' son was the only one who actually succeeded."

Helen fell back into her chair, covering her face with her hands. "It... it was for the family's future! Julian has a real degree! He was going to build a legacy!"
"With my money?" Thomas whispered. He looked at his parents, and the last remaining ounce of affection he had for them died in that very moment. "With the sweat and blood of my diners? While my kids are forced to wear aprons and scrub tables?"
