Part 2: The Ring

The ballroom was silent.
Moments earlier, laughter had filled every corner of the room. Now, all that remained was the sound of Emily's heels clicking against the marble floor.
Daniel stared at her as if he had seen a ghost.
"Emily..." he whispered.
She didn't answer.
The small gift box trembled in her hands.
Every guest watched as she walked toward the center of the room where Daniel stood beside his mistress.
The blonde woman suddenly looked uncomfortable.
Gone was the confidence she had worn just minutes earlier.
Emily stopped only a few feet away.
Her eyes were red from tears, but her voice remained calm.
"I've been looking for you."
Daniel swallowed hard.
"Emily, listen—"
"No."
For the first time in years, she interrupted him.
"I've listened to you for five years."
The room remained frozen.
Emily slowly opened the gift box.
Inside lay a luxury watch she had spent months saving for.
Several guests exchanged uncomfortable glances.
She held it up.
"This was your gift."
Daniel stared at it.
"I wanted to surprise you tonight."
Emily laughed softly.
The sound broke everyone's heart.
"I thought we were celebrating our future."
Her hand moved to her stomach.
"Our baby."
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I spent all week planning this party."
She looked around the room.
"I picked the flowers."
Her voice cracked.
"I chose the music."
Another tear fell.
"And while I was doing all of that... you were planning your escape."
Nobody dared move.
Daniel looked down.
The shame on his face was impossible to hide.
The blonde mistress reached for his arm.
Emily noticed.
Something inside her shattered completely.
Slowly, she slipped off her wedding ring.
The ring that Daniel had placed on her finger five years ago.
The ring she had never removed.
Not once.
Not during sickness.
Not during hardship.
Not even during the nights she cried herself to sleep while he stayed out "working."
Her fingers trembled.
Daniel's eyes widened.
"Emily... don't."
She stared at the ring for several seconds.
Memories flooded her mind.
Their wedding day.
Their first apartment.
The promises.
The dreams.
The lies.
Then—
SLAM!
She threw the ring onto the table.
The sound echoed through the ballroom.
Several guests gasped.
One woman covered her mouth.
Another began crying.
Daniel looked as if someone had punched him in the chest.
He reached toward her.
"Please... let's talk about this."
Emily stepped backward.
"No."
Then she looked directly into his eyes.
And whispered:
"My son will never..."
The room froze.
Nobody knew what she would say next.
But everyone knew those words would change everything.
