Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

The sun climbed high above the iron gates of the Moretti estate, casting a golden glow across the manicured lawns and the newly restored fountains in the courtyard.

Inside the grand dining hall, Viktor Vance stood at the head of the long mahogany table reviewing shipping manifests and financial reports for the newly reorganized syndicate. He looked up as the double doors opened, watching Gabriel and me walk in together.

Viktor’s stern, scarred face broke into a rare, approving grin. He raised a cup of black coffee toward us in a silent toast.

“Morning, Don Moretti. Morning, Clara,” Viktor greeted smoothly.

“Morning, Viktor,” Gabriel replied, pulling out a chair for me before taking his own seat at the table. He looked healthier, stronger, and more alive than he had in years. The shadows of betrayal, poison, and wheelchair-bound helplessness were entirely behind him.

I sat down, opening my fresh notebook—not filled with medical charts or emergency logs anymore, but with new plans, new beginnings, and a future that neither of us had expected to see.

Gabriel reached across the table, covering my hand with his own, his thumb gently brushing against my knuckles. The silence between us wasn't filled with the mechanical clicks of a hidden execution machine or the heavy dread of a looming assassination. It was filled with peace, mutual respect, and the quiet promise of a tomorrow we had fought tooth and nail to claim.

The empire outside was vast and dangerous, but sitting here in the sunlight, surrounded by people who trusted each other implicitly, I knew one thing for certain:

We had won. And our story had finally found its happy ending.
