CHAPTER 2: THE DAUGHTER SHE TRIED TO ERASE

Carmen looked directly at Lupita.
Tears filled her eyes.
“Your mother was named Alma.”
The young maid nodded.
“And she spent her entire life running from this family.”
Arturo frowned.
“What family?”
Carmen pointed toward Constanza.
“This family.”
The millionaire's wife immediately exploded.
“Stop lying!”
But nobody listened.
Not anymore.
Carmen continued.
“I worked for Constanza's parents many years ago.”
Her voice shook.
“I saw everything.”
Lupita felt her knees weaken.
“What did you see?”
Carmen closed her eyes.
Then spoke the words that stunned the room.
“Your mother gave birth to a child connected to this family.”
Arturo stared.
Constanza's face turned pale.
“You're insane.”
“No.”
Carmen slowly shook her head.
“I've stayed silent for twenty years.”
She pointed toward the photograph.
“That picture proves it.”
Arturo looked down again.
The bracelet.
The baby.
The hidden photograph.
Suddenly none of it felt accidental.
Then Carmen delivered another blow.
“Constanza could never have children.”
The silence became unbearable.
Arturo blinked.
“What?”
“That's the lie she told society.”
Constanza lunged forward.
“Enough!”
But Carmen refused to stop.
“The child everyone believed was hers... wasn't.”
Gasps filled the kitchen.
Lupita's hands began shaking.
Arturo felt his entire world tilting.
Because if Constanza never had a child...
Then who was the real mother?
And why had this secret been buried for decades?
Before anyone could answer, Constanza's eyes slowly moved downward.
Toward Lupita's stomach.
And suddenly...
she smiled.
