Chapter 2: The Man Who Owned Nothing

The front doors opened.
Three people entered.
First came Martin Cole, the company's chief legal counsel.
Then Nina Reeves, the CFO.
And behind them walked a man Adrian never expected to see.
Edward Whitmore.
Founder of the Whitmore empire.
Lena's grandfather.
Adrian's face instantly turned pale.
Edward surveyed the destroyed dining room.
The broken plates.
The ruined dinner.
The wine-covered floor.
Then he looked directly at Adrian.
"So," he said calmly.
"This is how you behave inside a house my granddaughter owns."
The words hit like a bomb.
The mistress blinked.
"Owns?"
For the first time, uncertainty crossed her face.
Adrian forced a laugh.
"This is a private matter."
"No," Martin replied.
He opened a leather folder.
"It stopped being private when company resources were used to finance an affair and conceal financial misconduct."
Vanessa turned toward Adrian.
"What is he talking about?"
Adrian ignored her.
He was staring at Lena.
Finally seeing her.
Perhaps for the first time in years.
"I built this company," Adrian snapped.
Nina laughed.
A cold, merciless laugh.
"No, you didn't."
She pulled out several documents.
"Eighteen months ago, Whitmore Digital was weeks from collapse. Lena personally approved the capital injection that saved it."
Adrian's phone buzzed.
Then buzzed again.
And again.
He pulled it out.
His expression changed.
Access revoked.
Executive privileges suspended.
Emergency board review initiated.
Corporate accounts frozen.
His breathing became uneven.
The mistress slowly stepped away from him.
"You told me the company was yours."
No answer.
"You told me the mansion was yours."
Still no answer.
Because for the first time, Adrian realized the truth.
The empire he bragged about.
The lifestyle he flaunted.
The power he abused.
None of it actually belonged to him.
And the worst news was still waiting inside Martin's folder.
