Chapter 4 - The Transformation

The top floor of the Hale Enterprise Tower was an expanse of smoked glass, polished marble, and absolute silence.
At five-fifteen that evening, the heavy double doors of Victor Hale's private executive suite opened.
Victor was sitting behind a massive black walnut desk, reviewing quarterly earnings reports on a flat-screen monitor. Standing beside him was his top creative director, a sharp-featured French woman named Madame Vivienne, who was flipping through model portfolios with an expression of profound boredom.
"They are all dreadful, Victor," Vivienne sighed, tossing a binder onto the desk. "Too much plastic surgery, no soul, no presence. If we launch 'Unpolished Beauty' with these girls, the Paris fashion week critics will murder us."
"Wait," Victor said simply, checking his watch.
"Wait for what?" Vivienne asked, frowning. "The sun to set?"
At that exact moment, the private elevator chimed.
The doors slid open, and Lily stepped out.
She was still wearing her oversized, frayed denim jacket, her scuffed sneakers, and her faded jeans. She held her canvas bag tightly in one hand, her auburn-brown curls slightly damp from the rain outside. She looked small, vulnerable, and completely out of place in the hyper-modern office.
Vivienne froze. Her sharp eyes locked onto Lily, her jaw slowly dropping.
Victor stood up from his desk. A quiet sense of satisfaction settled over his features as he walked across the polished floor toward her.
"You came," Victor said softly.
Lily looked up at him, her green eyes bright, clear, and determined. "I don't have anywhere else to go, Mr. Hale. But I want to work. I want to earn every single dollar you offered me."
Victor stopped in front of her, looking down at her face. He noticed the slight redness around her eyes, the set of her jaw, and realized she had just cut ties with her past.
"You won't have to beg for anything ever again, Lily," Victor promised quietly.
He turned to Vivienne. "Vivienne. This is Lily Morgan. The face of 'Unpolished Beauty.'"
Vivienne walked over to Lily, circling her like a hawk inspecting a prize specimen. She raised a gloved hand, gently lifting Lily’s chin, inspecting her profile under the bright LED lights.
"Mon Dieu..." Vivienne whispered, her bored expression vanishing, replaced by pure, unadulterated awe. "Look at those cheekbones. Look at the spacing of the eyes. The symmetry is immaculate... but the expression..."
Vivienne looked into Lily’s green eyes and gasped.
"It is tragedy and fire mixed together," Vivienne said breathlessly, turning to Victor. "Where did you find her?"
"On Michigan Avenue," Victor replied with a subtle smirk. "Selling caramels."
Vivienne slapped her hands together. "We begin immediately! The contract, legal team, now! Then, the style team!"
Within two hours, Lily’s life transformed at warp speed.
Victor’s legal team presented her with a fair, comprehensive contract. It guaranteed her a signing bonus of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, a monthly retainer of twenty thousand dollars, a private luxury apartment in the Gold Coast district, and an elite security team. In return, she would be the exclusive face of Hale International for five years.
Lily signed her name on the final page with a steady hand.
The moment the ink dried, Victor leaned over her shoulder, placing a smooth black debit card on the table beside her.
"Your signing bonus has been deposited," Victor said. "The apartment is ready. But first, you need a new wardrobe."
For the next four hours, the top floor of the Hale Tower became a whirlwind of high fashion. Elite stylists, hair artists, and makeup specialists arrived with racks of haute couture clothing.
Lily sat in a leather chair as stylists gently washed her hair, treating her auburn curls with rich oils until they glowed like spun bronze. They didn't cover her natural beauty with heavy makeup; instead, they highlighted her striking features—her glowing skin, her dark lashes, her full, natural lips.
When it came to clothing, Vivienne did not dress her in flashy, gaudy gowns.
She chose an exquisite, dark emerald-green silk dress that draped over Lily’s tall, slender frame like a dream, matching her striking eyes. The dress was elegant, sophisticated, and impossibly chic. A pair of simple black designer heels completed the transformation.
At ten o'clock that night, the stylists stepped back.
"Look in the mirror, Lily," Victor said softly, standing near the doorway.
Lily stood up slowly, her heels making a soft click against the marble floor. She walked toward the floor-to-ceiling mirror at the end of the room.
She stopped. Her hand flew to her mouth, tears springing to her eyes.
The girl in the mirror did not look like the candy girl from Michigan Avenue. She did not look like the girl who slept in a pantry under the stairs. She looked like a queen. Her long auburn hair fell in glossy waves over her bare shoulders; her emerald dress shimmered under the lights; her green eyes burned with a quiet, regal power.
She was untouchable.
Lily turned around slowly, looking at Victor.
Victor stood motionless, staring at her. For the first time since she had met him, the stoic, unreadable billionaire looked entirely speechless. His gray eyes softened with a dark, intense admiration that made Lily’s pulse race.
"Do I... do I look alright, Mr. Hale?" Lily asked, her voice trembling slightly.
May you like
Victor walked over to her, stopping inches away. He reached out, his long fingers gently tucking a stray auburn curl behind her ear, his touch surprisingly gentle for a man of such immense power.
"You look breathtaking, Lily," Victor whispered, his voice deep and rough with genuine emotion. "And from this moment on, no one will ever dare laugh at you again."
