Chapter 2 - The Trap Snaps at Gate 14

The fluorescent lights of Boston Logan International Airport hummed with a sterile, uncaring energy. At 5:45 a.m., the terminal was a sea of groggy travelers, rolling suitcases, and the ambient noise of intercom announcements.
Among them stood Victor Langley and Olivia Marsh, looking like a couple pulled straight from a luxury travel magazine. Victor adjusted the collar of his designer coat, a smug, relaxed smile plastered across his face. Next to him, Olivia was busy checking her reflection in the darkened terminal window, twisting her wrist to catch the light on the diamond tennis bracelet she had stolen from my jewelry box.
"Flight 412 to Zurich, now boarding first-class passengers at Gate 14," the gate agent’s voice chimed over the speaker.
Victor smirked, grabbing his carry-on. "That's us, babe. Ready to leave the dead weight behind?"
Olivia giggled, looping her arm through his. "I still can't believe how easy it was. Claire is probably still sound asleep, dreaming about her pathetic little spreadsheet life."
"She’s weak, Olivia. She always has been," Victor said, pulling out his passport and boarding pass as they approached the counter. "I gave her eleven years of my life. The company, the money—that’s just my severance package for putting up with her."
He handed his documentation to the gate agent, a polite woman named Martha. She scanned the boarding pass.
Beep. A sharp, red error flash illuminated the monitor.
Martha frowned, scanning it again. Beep. The same red flash. She typed something into her keyboard, her expression instantly hardening as she looked up at Victor. "Sir, I need you to step to the side for a moment. There seems to be an issue with your clearance."
Victor’s smile faltered, replaced by his trademark arrogance. "An issue? Do you know who I am? I am a first-class passenger. Scan it again. Your machine is obviously broken."
"It’s not the machine, Mr. Langley," a calm, authoritative voice echoed from behind them.
Victor turned around, his irritation ready to boil over, but the words died in his throat. Three men in matching dark suits and tactical vests were walking toward him. The man in the lead held up a leather wallet, revealing a gold badge.
"Federal Bureau of Investigation. Financial Crimes Division. Victor Langley, you are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and the illegal transfer of corporate assets across international borders."
Olivia let out a sharp gasp, taking a step back. "What? No! There’s been a mistake! He’s the CEO of Langley Enterprises!"
"Not anymore, ma'am," Special Agent Miller replied, signaling to the officers behind him. "And you must be Olivia Marsh. Don't move. You are also being detained as a co-conspirator."
Before Victor could speak, the heavy metallic click of handcuffs echoed through Gate 14. The surrounding passengers stopped, pulling out their phones to record the spectacle. The man who had called me "useless" just hours ago was now being forced to his knees in front of a crowd of strangers, his designer coat dragging on the dirty airport floor.

"This is Claire," Victor hissed, his face turning a deep, furious purple as the realization slammed into him. "That miserable bitch did this!"
"You have the right to remain silent, Mr. Langley," Agent Miller said coldly, pulling him up by the arms. "I suggest you use it."
