Chapter 5 - The Skyline Sanctuary

Twenty minutes later, the chaos of the airport was miles behind us.

I sat in the plush leather interior of a sleek, black luxury SUV, watching the Chicago skyline rise up against the evening sky like a wall of diamonds. Lily was awake now, happily chewing on the napkin puppet Noah had made for her on the plane, her little giggles filling the quiet cabin.

Noah sat across from me, a glass of sparkling water in his hand, looking out at the city he owned.

"I don't even know how to thank you," I said, my voice trembling as the adrenaline finally began to fade. "You didn't just save me on the flight, Noah. You saved my daughter."

"You don't have to thank me, Emily," Noah said, turning his head to look at me with a soft, genuine smile. "For the last six months, everyone I've met has looked at me and seen a dollar sign, a headline, or a target. When you fell asleep on my shoulder, you didn't know who I was. You just trusted a stranger who was tired too."

The SUV pulled up to the grand entrance of a soaring luxury high-rise overlooking the lake—The Whitman Residences. Marcus opened the door, offering me a hand with a deep, respectful nod.

"My family keeps a private guest suite on the top floor," Noah said, stepping out after me and taking the diaper bag. "It's secure, it's quiet, and my personal legal counsel will be there at nine o'clock tomorrow morning to unfreeze your accounts and finalize your custody paperwork. You're safe here, Emily."

I looked up at the massive glass tower, then down at my beautiful daughter. The last name I carried still felt like a bruise, but for the first time in four years, I knew it was going to heal. I smiled, stepping into the warm, secure light of the lobby beside the billionaire who had crossed the sky just to help me stand my ground.
