Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

Seventy-two hours later.

The blizzard had finally cleared, leaving the Cascade Mountains bathed in a blinding, crystalline winter sunlight. The snowplows had carved a narrow path up the mountain pass, allowing three black FBI SUVs and a convoy of state trooper vehicles to park outside the glass mansion.

Down in Seattle, inside the sixty-story glass tower of Pierce Medical Dynamics, the annual shareholder board meeting was underway.

Arthur Vance sat at the head of the mahogany conference table, wearing a ten-thousand-dollar suit, his silver hair neatly slicked back. Surrounding him were twelve of the most powerful medical investors in North America and Europe.

"Gentlemen," Arthur Vance announced, tapping his Montblanc pen against his leather folder with a smooth, authoritative posture. "As you know, our Founder, Dr. Nathan Pierce, has been unavailable due to severe weather conditions at his mountain retreat. However, under section eight of our corporate bylaws, in the absence of the primary shareholder, the proxy vote defaults to the Chief Legal Counsel."

He slid a stack of legal documents across the table.

"Today, we formally execute the sale of our pediatric research division to Geneva Bio-Tech for two point four billion dollars," Arthur continued, a triumphant, greedy smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "The vote is unanimous."

"Not quite unanimous, Arthur," a calm, booming voice echoed from the rear of the boardroom.

The heavy glass double doors of the auditorium swung open.

Every head in the room snapped around.

Dr. Nathan Pierce walked into the boardroom. He wasn't wearing his surgical scrubs or his tailored corporate suits. He wore a dark wool coat, his hair slightly wind-ruffled, his dark eyes radiating an intensity that made the room instantly drop into absolute silence.

Beside him walked Agent Sarah Jenkins of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, accompanied by four armed federal marshals.

Arthur Vance’s pen dropped from his fingers, rolling uselessly across the mahogany table. His face turned an unhealthy, chalky grey.

"Nathan?" Arthur stammered, standing up so fast his leather chair rolled back into the glass wall. "You... you made it down the mountain? We heard the pass was completely sealed..."

"I made it down, Arthur," Nathan said, walking down the center aisle of the boardroom with slow, deliberate steps. "And I brought a few legal documents of my own."

Nathan reached into his coat, pulling out a thick, sealed document binder, and slammed it down onto the center of the table right in front of the Swiss investors.

"What is the meaning of this?!" one of the foreign board members demanded, looking between Nathan and the federal agents.

"That binder contains the sworn confession of Marcus Kane," Nathan announced, his voice carrying clearly across the sixty-floor tower. "Including wiretap recordings, offshore bank transfer receipts from Arthur Vance's personal accounts in the Cayman Islands, and seven years of documented physical abuse, extortion, and attempted murder."

Arthur’s hands began to shake violently. "This is absurd! This is a smear campaign! Marcus Kane is a convicted felon! You can't trust the word of a—"

"We didn't just take his word, Mr. Vance," Agent Jenkins interrupted, stepping forward and pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from her belt. "We recovered the encrypted hard drives from your home office in Bellevue two hours ago. The paper trail connecting you to Marcus Kane's financial funding is complete."

Gasps erupted across the boardroom. The corporate directors instinctively backed their chairs away from Arthur as if he were carrying a contagious plague.

Nathan stepped closer to Arthur, stopping just inches from his former legal counsel.

"You tried to kill my sister," Nathan whispered, his voice a blade of pure ice. "You stole seven years of her life. You forced a five-year-old child to walk barefoot through a mountain blizzard carrying two infants."

Nathan leaned down, placing both hands flat on the table, staring straight into Arthur’s terrified eyes.

"You aren't just going to prison, Arthur," Nathan promised quietly. "I am using every cent of the Pierce estate to ensure you spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security federal facility. And every single asset you own—your houses, your stocks, your offshore accounts—has already been frozen under the Victims' Rights Act."

Agent Jenkins stepped up behind Arthur, twisting his arms behind his back with a sharp, metallic CLICK of the handcuffs.

"Arthur Vance," Agent Jenkins read his rights clearly into the quiet room. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit murder, and murder in the first degree."

As the marshals dragged the screaming, sobbing attorney out of the boardroom, Nathan turned to the remaining directors.

"The sale of the research division is canceled," Nathan declared, his voice ringing with absolute authority. "Effective immediately, fifty-one percent of all voting shares are transferred into a irrevocable trust for Lily, Owen, and Ethan Carter. And this company will henceforth dedicate forty percent of its annual profits to funding domestic violence shelters and pediatric trauma centers across the Pacific Northwest."

The board members looked at the man who had reclaimed his legacy. One by one, they slowly stood up, nodding their heads in silent, profound respect.
