Chapter 3 - The Fractured Alliance

The ballroom erupted into absolute chaos. Guests were standing up from their gold-gilded chairs, whispers turning into loud shouting matches. The Vance family—Vanessa’s powerful shipping magnate relatives—swarmed the altar, surrounding Victor and Ethan.

"This wedding is over!" Vanessa’s father, a heavy-set man with a booming voice, slammed his fist into a decorative floral pillar. "Victor, you lied to us! You brought us into a family dynamic riddled with fraud and secret heirs! The Vance-Harrison merger is canceled! Our legal team will be pulling our capital from your shipping ports by five o'clock today!"

"Arthur, please, let's talk about this in private!" Victor pleaded, his hands extended in a desperate attempt to salvage the multi-billion-dollar business merger that this wedding was supposed to solidify. "It's a scam! We can handle this quietly!"

"There is no 'quietly' anymore, Dad," Ethan said, standing up from the floor. He didn't look at Vanessa. He didn't look at the hundreds of wealthy investors. He took off his formal boutonnière, tossed it onto the ground, and stepped directly to my side.

"Ethan!" Vanessa cried out, her voice cracking as she grabbed his sleeve. "You're going to leave me at the altar for her? For a woman who hid your children from you?!"

"She didn't hide them from me, Vanessa. My father stole them from me," Ethan said, his voice dropping to a cold, hollow register. He looked at me, his eyes full of a profound, weeping remorse. "Emma... I am so sorry. For five years, I lived in a prison of thinking you abandoned me. I let his cynicism poison my mind. I will spend the rest of my life making this up to you and my children. If you'll let me."

I looked down at the four little faces looking up at us, confused by the shouting adults but comforted by the fact that their mother hadn't flinched once.

"We’re leaving, Ethan," I said quietly, turning my back on the magnificent, ruined ballroom. "If you want to be a father, the doors to our home are open. But the doors to this family tower are locked forever."

"I'm coming with you," Ethan said without a single second of hesitation.

"Ethan Harrison, if you walk out of those doors, you are completely disinherited!" Victor shouted from the center of the room, his face purple with a desperate, impotent rage. "You will have nothing! No title! No shares! No access to the Harrison holdings! I will strip your name from the corporate charter by sunset!"

Ethan stopped at the threshold, looking back at the old man who sat alone amidst the ruins of his grand, carefully planned victory.

"Keep the money, Dad," Ethan said, a peaceful, victorious smile touching his lips for the first time in five years. "I finally found what actually matters."
