Chapter 4 - The Fall of the House of Vance

By 11:00 PM, the storm outside had reached its peak, driving heavy rain against the panoramic glass of the estate.

In the driveway, three more black SUVs arrived, their red and blue strobe lights flashing silently through the downpour. Step by step, the outer world was closing in on Elena and Rachel Vance, but it was not the police coming to rescue them—it was the total liquidation of their existence.

Kael entered the living room, stepping beside Vance.

"Richard Vance has been arrested at the Grand Regency," Kael reported calmly. "The media has picked up the story. His corporate headquarters is currently being raided by federal marshals. Every asset tied to his name has been frozen under federal racketeering statutes."

Elena slumped forward in her chair, weeping uncontrollably. Her phone, which lay on the table, began flashing continuously with notifications from news apps:

BREAKING: VANCE DEVELOPMENT CORP COLLAPSES AMID MASSIVE FRAUD AUDIT. DEVELOPER RICHARD VANCE ARRESTED BY FEDERAL MARSHALS AT DOWNTOWN GALA. STATE SECURITIES COMMISSION SEIZES ALL ASSETS TIED TO VANCE FAMILY TRUSTS.

"Please, Vance," Elena sobbed, reaching out her trembling hands toward him across the table. "Please... think about Mia! She needs her mother! You can't destroy my family! We can fix this! I'll never let Rachel near her again! I'll be a better wife, I swear!"

Vance looked at her with an expression of cold, detached pity.

"You were never a mother to her, Elena," Vance said. "You saw her as an accessory—a prop to show off at family gatherings when it suited your image, and a burden when she required actual love and care. You left her with a sadist while you chased status."

He turned to Kael. "Where is the legal team?"

"In the dining room, Boss," Kael replied. "The custody transfer documents, asset separation filings, and criminal evidence packets are finalized."

Vance gestured, and two attorneys in sharp dark suits stepped into the room, placing a stack of legal documents in front of Elena.

"These are full parental relinquishment papers," Vance stated coldly. "You will surrender all legal custody, visitation rights, and parental claims to Mia Sterling immediately. In exchange, my legal team will ensure you are not named as a co-conspirator in your father's federal fraud trial."

Elena looked at the documents through her tears. "And if I don't sign?"

"If you don't sign," Vance replied smoothly, "the video footage of you monitoring and encouraging the abuse of a minor will be released directly to the state prosecutor, along with the offshore banking logs proving you laundered two million dollars of your father's stolen corporate funds through your fashion line. You will spend fifteen years in a state penitentiary."

Elena’s hand trembled as she picked up the pen left on the table. She looked at her sister, Rachel, who was weeping silently beside her, totally abandoned, totally broken.

With a shaking signature, Elena signed every line, relinquishing her daughter, her marriage, and her standing forever.

"It is done," the lead attorney said, collecting the signed pages and placing them into a leather briefcase. "Full legal custody is now exclusively vested in Vance Sterling. The divorce decree has been filed under emergency seal."

Vance turned his back on Elena.

"Take them out," Vance ordered softly. "Rachel will be handed over to the county sheriff's department along with the video evidence of child endangerment. Elena will be escorted to a basic rental apartment on the south side of the city. Give her five hundred dollars in cash—the exact amount she left in my clock shop bank account when she thought I couldn't pay rent."

"No! Vance! Please!" Elena shrieked as tactical operators pulled her to her feet and led her toward the door. "Vance! Look at me! I'm your wife!"

Vance did not turn around. He stood by the grandfather clock, listening to the rhythmic, unyielding tick-tock of the internal pendulum until the heavy front doors opened, the screaming was swept away by the wind and rain, and the doors slammed shut for the final time.
