Venezuelan Migrant Arrested After Chicago Student Fatally Shot Near Campus

A masked gunman shot and killed an 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student along the city’s lakefront shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, while she was walking with friends. The gunman struck Sheridan Gorman, a resident of Westchester County, New York, in the head, causing her death at the scene.
There is a 25-year-old man in jail for her death who is a Venezuelan migrant, according to Fox News.
The Chicago Tribune obtained records indicating that a “distinct limp” led to the suspect’s discovery just minutes after the shooting. The Tribune didn’t say who the suspect was. Police haven’t said yet if the man has been charged in connection with the Gorman case.
In a letter sent to students on Thursday, Mark C. Reed, President of Loyola University Chicago, confirmed Gorman’s death.
“It is with profound sadness that I write to share that one of our students, Sheridan Gorman, was killed earlier today. This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out to Sheridan’s family, loved ones, and all who knew her,” Reed wrote in the letter.
Sheridan Gorman was only 18 years old. She was walking along the lakefront with friends in the early morning. A man with a mask shot at her, and now her family in New York is planning a funeral instead of a summer visit.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) filed an arrest detainer asking sanctuary politicians not to let Jose Medina-Medina go free.
Medina-Medina is a Venezuelan criminal illegal alien who was arrested for killing 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman in Chicago, Illinois.
The U.S. Border Patrol caught Medina-Medina on May 9, 2023, and the Biden administration let him into the country. He was arrested for shoplifting in Chicago, Illinois, and then let go again on June 19, 2023.
“Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life. She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.
“We are calling on Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago’s sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this criminal illegal alien from jail back into American neighborhoods,” Bis added.
In December 2025, ICE Director Todd Lyons wrote to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and asked him to put the safety of Americans first and honor ICE arrest warrants for more than 4,000 criminal illegal aliens in the state’s custody, including murderers, sexual predators, and people who have been convicted of or charged with weapons offenses.
The pace of ICE arrests nationwide has topped 1,100 per day on average this year, far higher than the rate last spring of roughly 600 arrests per day, according to new data reviewed by the New York Times.
“New data analyzed by The New York Times reveals that the pace of these arrests has varied across the country in sometimes surprising ways. Some places that did not have high-profile ICE operations this year, such as Florida and San Antonio, have still seen high and steadily increasing numbers of arrests,” the article stated.
“In other areas like Los Angeles and Chicago that were targeted by ICE with aggressive enforcement operations last year, the number of arrests has fallen steeply in recent months. And in some areas — notably many places with so-called sanctuary policies in place — the arrest rate is flat, or up only slightly.
The article added, “The administration’s high-profile operation in Minnesota this year, resulted in a steep increase in arrests there: ICE’s St. Paul field office arrested more than 5,000 people from mid-December through March 10. But four other field offices arrested more people during this same time period, led by the Miami area — with nearly 10,000 arrests — followed by the field offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and San Antonio.”
BREAKING: Trump Makes Final Decision on Iran - 'No Other Choice'

President Trump on Saturday warned Iran of dire consequences if the Middle Eastern country does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz or agree to a ceasefire deal within 48 hours. “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD!”
The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route for oil, was closed by Iran in retaliation for the recent U.S.-Israeli attacks. The closure has unsettled the global energy market.
His latest statement reiterates a warning given by Trump on March 26, in which he stated that he would postpone attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure by an additional 10 days in hopes of reaching a deal.
Last weekend, Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum, promising to “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if the country did not reopen this vital maritime chokepoint. This latest development follows Iran’s downing of two U.S. planes on Friday. All pilots and airmen from the aircraft have been rescued, the president announced late Saturday evening.
Trump dropped another warning to Iran after the last airman was rescued, sprinkled with colorful language: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F**kin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
Earlier, the president and commander-in-chief updated the country on the rescue of the remaining downed airman, a weapons officer aboard an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter:
WE GOT HIM! My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND! This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour, but was never truly alone because his Commander in Chief, Secretary of War, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and fellow Warfighters were monitoring his location 24 hours a day, and diligently planning for his rescue. At my direction, the U.S. Military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him. He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine. This miraculous Search and Rescue Operation comes in addition to a successful rescue of another brave Pilot, yesterday, which we did not confirm, because we did not want to jeopardize our second rescue operation. This is the first time in military memory that two U.S. Pilots have been rescued, separately, deep in Enemy Territory. WE WILL NEVER LEAVE AN AMERICAN WARFIGHTER BEHIND! The fact that we were able to pull off both of these operations, without a SINGLE American killed, or even wounded, just proves once again, that we have achieved overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies. This is a moment that ALL Americans, Republican, Democrat, and everyone else, should be proud of and united around. We truly have the best, most professional, and lethal Military in the History of the World. GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS, AND HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!
Mick Ryan, senior fellow for military studies at the Lowy Institute and a retired major general in the Australian Army, told CNN of the rescue mission, “US Air Force, US Army Special Forces, and a range of other organizations would have been coming together, doing crash planning and coming up with a range of different options to rescue both these crew members.” He added: “No one in the world could really pull this off like the US military has.”
BREAKING - Fox News Cuts Live Feed for Emergency Trump Announcement

Fox News anchor Bret Baier said that President Donald Trump told him that America’s military actions against Iran have essentially hit their “four-point checklist for Operation Epic Fury’s success,” adding that it has been “check, check, check, check.”
“I just got off the phone with the president. He is very pleased with you how things are going. Disheartened about the loss of life and there may be more. He said along the way. As far as the progress, he said they are ahead of where they thought they would be,” Baier began.
“I want to read some quotes that I asked him and how he answered. He said that as far as a plan, they do have a plan. Always had a plan. The intelligence, the level of intelligence that they have had up to this point is truly amazing. I asked what you are saying is you know there is somebody on the ground in Iran that is going to rise up. Quote, yeah, I feel there is. I feel that and some of them are no longer with us to be honest because it was 49 leaders that were taken out,” Baier added.
“That was going to take four to six weeks to get rid of the Iranian leadership, and it is always, you know, if they hide it is a lot longer than four weeks. They would have been hiding. We were shocked when we heard what was going on. We knew exactly what was happening and where. 49 leaders. You know, they are talking about using people now that nobody ever heard of even they don’t know,” he continued.
Baier then kicked it over to senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy to provide more details.
“The checklist for success in Epic Fury had four points on it, and according to officials here, so far it has been check, check, check, check. So, Epic Fury can end soon, that is what we are going to hear from President Trump in less than three hours,” Doocy said.
“13,000 combat flights have struck 12,300 targets and destroyed 155 Iranian vessels. Iran is a danger and I think we have attacked and destroyed their industrial complex and their weapons. I thank the administration for doing that, but I think we need to go ahead and wind down very soon,” Doocy said.
“In two to three weeks it will wind down, according to White House officials, who tell us tonight’s remarks will highlight how the Pentagon has met these goals: destroy Iran’s deadly ballistic missiles and production facilities, annihilate their navy, ensure their terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region, and guarantee that Iran can no longer obtain a nuclear weapon. Iran’s president complained today: ‘Portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day observable facts.’ But the White House says Iranian leaders keep lying,” Doocy continued.
WATCH:
“Pressure on Europe from the West Wing is building. According to the Financial Times, Donald Trump threatened to stop supplying weapons for Ukraine in order to pressure European allies to join a coalition of the willing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz,” Doocy continued.

“And Reuters reports that tonight President Trump will express his disgust with NATO for what he considers the alliance’s lack of support for U.S. objectives in Iran. President Trump says he is strongly considering withdrawing from the alliance, and he can do that with two-thirds Senate support or an act of Congress. So far, key NATO allies unmoved,” Doocy added.
“The special relationship not so special during this military campaign. Still, we don’t expect to hear President Trump say that alliances are weaknesses, it’s gonna be more like alliances are irrelevant and Epic Fury is proof. Now, NATO says they are going to send their secretary general here to Washington next week for what they insist is a long-planned visit,” he added.
